Hi guys!

We had our AOS interview yesterday and were approved on the spot! We were given the 2 year conditional green card as we werent married for long but were still very thankful! I checked it online today it's already for production! But I was just wondering does everyone who applies K1 get the conditional greencard? And there shouldn't be any problem adjusting it to permanent visa right? Just making sure before I can completely run free!!!

Thank you guys!

Does that mean that you/your fiance won't get a green card until 2 years into marriage? or am i mistaking it or what else does this mean....

if so, i thought that it doesn't matter how long you are married for...most people apply for the aos right after getting married..

First of all, congratulations for the approval. Must be a big relieved after all kind of papers, lol. Secondly, most of people who adjusted from K-1 visa got 2 year conditional green card unless they filed later after being married more than 2 years. And there is no such thing called "permanent visa".

If someone married to the USC less than 2 years and filed AOS afterwards and then if gets approved she/he will received 2 year conditional green card.

Some people don't filed AOS immediately after got married. There are many reasons and most of times is about money. Approval length comes vary. It could take from 4 months up to a year. During the process of you are becoming a lawful permanent resident as known LPR, your present in the US is in authorization to stay until you have a green card in hand.

but what does it mean, the conditional 2 yr green card

It means it expires in 2 years instead of the normal 10, and there is a different procedure to renew, called Removal of Conditions (form I-751). There is a whole forum here dedicated to it. They want to recheck that you did not get married to evade the immigration laws of the US, and you will have to submit proof of a bona fide marriage again. But, it is not a big deal.

AOS for my husband
8/17/10: INTERVIEW DAY (day 123) APPROVED!!

ROC:
5/23/12: Sent out package
2/06/13: APPROVED!

It means that if you don't do lifting condition or removing of condition of your conditional green card accordingly there is a chance they will ask for deportation.

Actually, if you don't do Removal of Conditions, then they will terminate your LPR status and begin removal proceedings against you.

It is a mandatory step, the final mandatory step, in fact. After that renewing the GC is simple, like renewing a Driver's license.

oh ok, i for some reason thought that u get a green card up to a year after u apply and then 2 or 3 years into the marriage u can apply for a citizenship. i guess it takes years to become a citizen then?

Congrats!

If you are married less than 2 years when your green card is approved, then you will receive a 2 year conditional green card. Those that enter with a CR-1 visa and most people that adjust from a K-1 will receive a conditional permanent residence > http://www.uscis.gov/green-card/after-green-card-granted/conditional-permanent-residence

There is no such thing as a permanent visa. You are now a permanent resident. You will need to apply to remove the conditions within 90 days before your 2 year green expires. Once the ROC is approved, you will receive a 10 year green card. http://www.uscis.gov/green-card/after-green-card-granted/conditional-permanent-residence/remove-conditions-permanent-residence-based-marriage

~ Moved from K-1 Process to AOS from Family Based Visas - topic is AOS, not K-1 ~

You need to be a LPR for 3 years and married to a USC for 3 years to apply for citizenship. ROC is done when you have been a LPR for 2 years.
