The rabid atheist are just as bad as the rabid Pentecostals . Both want to force their view on everyone

I don't like terms like "rabid" because they're merely personal insults, and don't have any concrete meaning.

If you mean relative levels of pushing their beliefs upon others, religion blows the doors off atheism. Churches are organized, have a lot of wealth, act as political forces, they publish vast amounts of material, broadcast, recruit in the furthest corners of the world - atheists do nothing of the kind. What atheist leader does anything even remotely like Pat Robertson? There isn't one in existence. I don't belong to any atheist organization, or worship anything whatsoever.

Who is your list of top ten rabid atheists? I can name at least that many televangelists, faith healer, snake-handler types. But that's nothing compared to what religion can really pull off - like the Reverend Jim Jones for example: 900 dead there by mass suicide. Rabid enough for you? Heaven's Gate. Etc.

Atheists don't do anything of the kind.

Ok I give you atheism may not be as well organized and as the main stream religions. However some on a one to one level are as dogmatic as ,many of the Pentecostals.

Do you like dogmatic better than Rabid

I don't care for dogmatic at either end of the spectrum

So you can't name any. That's exactly what I mean. You simply cannot give me evidence of atheists being like Pat Robertson or even a tiny fraction of him.

"Dogmatic" seems tautologically absurd: There are no Gods. There is nothing else at all to "atheist". To say they are "dogmatic" about one sole question is bizarre. There you go again, using a religious term - dogmatic - to something atheists don't do.

Its hard to discuss atheism with anyone that is religious. Well, it seems that way to me. What's with atheists that form churches? I think people have some need to belong that apparently I'm missing. Atheism isn't inherently organized. I don't have a set of atheist rules I follow or books I read even if some do. I just really like scientific discussions and findings on the nature of the universe and I'm doubtful of anything I can't see. Which is odd because I believe in molecules even though I've never seen them and am, for the most part, putting faith in the math done by other people who I don't really have the mental fortitude to double check.

Dogmatic is a religious term. Darn who knew.

I am not religious just for the record

I know. It was a jumping point for me.

I think you go through the hoops for the wife if I recall correctly. I do the same.

we all do.

All i am saying, and it keeps getting lost, as I know some people (personally) who are just as dogmatic about shoving atheism down everyone's throat as some far right religious nut jobs.

I could name them, but none would know them .

They are dogmatic. Same could be said for peopel dogmatic about other things. Nothing worse than a Amway zealot .

Dogmatic is a religious term? It can be used to describe some religious tenets, to be sure, but it also has non-religious meaning, as well. There are folks on VJ that are dogmatic in their support of Obama, though when asked, they can provide no basis for this adoration, no examples of the good that he has done.

i've been told that i 'hate christians' (not by anyone here, i don't think) and it's weird, since that's what i come from and what i'm surrounded by. i think for some people, atheism is natural - they weren't really raised in a religion and so they just kind of slide comfortably into the conclusion that there is no god and they couldn't care less, one way or the other, if their friends and family have religion or not - it's all a side show. but then for other people, like me, 'faith' and christianity were the basis for my entire childhood, teenage years. i seriously look back on my younger life and it was all about getting out and away from the church. it's a really personal thing for me. i've never tried to talk my family or friends into atheism. not even my own son. but when the topic of god, or christianity comes up, folks are usually a bit shocked and offended when you tell them you don't subscribe to their particular faith. they tend to look down upon you, because afterall, they've been taught that i will surely go to hell and suffer eternity for my lack of belief. people feel the need to 'save' me. my point is, anyway, that it isn't so much that i hate christians because i don't. but after 10+ years with no religion in my life, it gets irritating to constantly be looked at like a fool, a hell bound fool who is heartlessly dragging my own kid into the lakes of fire all for my own stubborness. refusing to open my eyes to the 'truth'. i've never met a 'dogmatic' atheist, but i have met quite a few that are tired, annoyed, and really wish people would get over it (religion) so humanity could make some headway already.

well then you are not a dogmatic atheist. There are plenty who are content to live and let live, and as I correct christian some time, are very Moral people.

However there are very dogmatic shove it down your throat types out there. I have a couple on FB. every other post is making fun of Christians or screaming because some guy said a prayer somewhere. every time someone posts something religious they attack it .

All I am saying is that some Atheist like some Christians can be dogmatic to the point of nausea. Obvious you are not that . My religious views are closer to yours. I am not 100% convinced there is no God, but if there is, She is really pissed at a lot of Christians and the way they act
