I explicitly don't believe in bigfoot, is that a system of belief?

You don't that it will ever be possible to find bigfoot (faith) or you feel that most reasonable adults ( excepting History channel watchers) agree that no reliable evidence to demonstrate the existence of a bigfoot like creature( scientific examination of the evidence)?

Pat Robertson is worth 200 million for putting on that very act of doing things like saying Robin Williams worshipped false Gods.

I don't know the numbers, but he represents millions of people, meaning just exactly that kind of talk is what they eat up and get their checkbooks out for. Amen brother Pat. It's going to be order of magnitude more than 10 million people that are just fine with Pat Robertson saying such a thing.

A good example that numbers aren't always correct.

Well, at least from my perspective.

Why do you speak of God [sic] in the singular when there is undeniable evidence around the world of the existence of several gods? Wouldn't that make an atheist out of you, by your own definition?

it wouldn't strictly speaking, make me anything. One could suppose that reference to God in the singular could be monotheistic, agnostic with a view toward God in the singular or even a polytheist breaking it down for us ?

also

if the evidence is undeniable is that a faith or is it a fact?

I am not sure what atheist might or might not worship, but they do have a religous belief in the non existance of God. Agnostics are more ambigous and non religious about the God thing. Splitting semantic hairs maybe, but I just cannot accept the explicity belief in Gods non existance as not a system of belief.

As a center point can I suggest we converge on the belief non existance of a moral compass in Pat Robertson in piling on the sales of his crapoganda CDs to folks at home based on the untimely loss of a good and decent man?

I'm not sure a general denial of the existence of god amounts to a 'system of belief', since really what we are talking about here are the views of disparate individuals who to differing degrees do not believe in religion.

I think what you are saying here is that some extreme atheists are very dogmatic about their agenda. Atheism per se isn't a religious belief.

Atheism simply means the absence of belief in deities. It doesn't mean there is a vacuum that must be filled by another belief system. I guess if you are a theist you are not very used to the idea of what it might be like to have no requirement for a belief system that requires there to be something greater than the self and what is physically present and so there is a tendency to project belief onto atheists. That is rather more of a problem for the person who does not understand atheism than it is for the atheists themselves.

Not sure where this tangent came from, there is no evidence that Robin Williams eschewed faith in favor of these so called 'false gods', just some twerp who thinks it's a good idea to hop on the anti-Hollywood bandwagon. It's sort of akin to those who say that homosexuals are responsible for earthquakes. Such statements are ignorant and insulting to all.

Wait a minute!! Are you seriously suggesting that homosexuals are not responsible for earthquakes?

Makes two of us but I don't call myself atheist, no more than I call myself a-unicornist...

Exactly. I am an atheist who tends to call herself a non-believer for this very reason. My lack of belief in a god or gods is not a belief in and of itself. It's simply part of who I am. I rarely even think about not believing, because it's such a non-issue for me.

earlier in this thread it was established that "worship" is not an exclusively religious word. The same goes for the word "faith". I'm ok with saying I have faith there is no bigfoot.
