Hi VJers,

So I got a notice from UCIS last night that my I-485 application has moved to Testing/Scheduling, exactly 30 days after I submitted my AOS package from F1. However, I am having a big question about moving and changing of address before interview, please someone with the knowledge help me to clear this doubt:

Long story short, I am about to move back to state X after my summer research internship in state Y. My wife is residing in state Z. We live in separate states because I am attending graduate school. Last month I filed my package from state Y and 3 NOAs (I-485, I-131 and I-765) were sent to my address in state Y. Meanwhile, my wife received a NOA for I-130 at the address in state Z (which is the address I stated in the application that we will live together).

As I have to move back to state X for the final year of school, I intend to change my address with UCIS via online tool. My understanding is that I only have to change address for the 3 forms: I-131, I-485 and I-765 since my wife is not moving , IS THIS CORRECT? or do I have to CHANGE ALL?

Also, does anyone know if this change of address will put me back in the waiting line for interview scheduling?

Thank you in advance and feel free to ask me questions or anything.

What do you consider to be your permanent address? State Z where the wife is residing? You do not have to complete a change of address as long as you put your permanent address, state Z, on the application form which you did and you consider that your place of domicile. I would not bother with any change of address as you are living there temporarily until you are finished with school and then you plan to move back to state Z. You will just have to travel to the interview in state Z when that comes around.

Actually until you become a LPR and receive your GC, you are not required to inform the USCIS of your change of address. Once you become a LPR and receive your GC, then you must use the AR-11 to report a change of address and your wife as the USC sponsor that completed the I-864 must file an I-865 to report her change of address. The only reason to inform the USCIS of an address change before becoming a LPR is so you will receive updates about your application at the new location and so the interview can be closer to where you now reside, but you still call state Z home and the wife is there it receive mail so no worries.

Good luck,

Dave

absolutely wrong. if you read the instructions, you are obligated to inform of USCIS of all and any address changes/updates, whether you are a visa holder or an LPR. this is common sense dude.

You're status may have changed to "Testing/Scheduling", but did you actually receive an interview date? If not, USCIS can take a while for you to be actually scheduled, meaning being in "Testing/Scheduling" status and actually being scheduled for an interview are two different things. Once you are scheduled an interview, the USCIS website will list the date and time of interview and also inform you to be expecting a letter with additional instructions.

As far as updating the addresses, be truthful and don't lie.

Thank you for the answers.

I am not intending to lie about my address My main concern was should I made change to all or just the 3 forms which I received NOAs for. I have not received scheduling information yet, only the status changed to Interview/Test stage. I wanted to change address so that I could receive the interview schedule mail correctly ( as I am not sure if that mail will be sent to my address or my wife's address.

you have to file:

- AR-11 for I-485, I-131, I-765

- I-865 for the I-864

i changed addresses too while my case was in the testing and interview stage, i honestly dont think it bumps you to the back of the line because i got an interview notice 10 days after i submitted my change in address and i'm in socal where interview scheduling takes like, 4 months.

also changing the address and calling USCIS to follow up on it and not getting a response and the usual bureaucratic jazz was awesome. would not do it again.

The fastest way to change your address is filling out the AR-11 online. Then I would call USCIS a couple days later and verify with the person on the phone.

It can take a while for you to actually be scheduled for an interview, all dependent on how many cases there are before yours.
