My husband and I were recently married after first meeting over seven years ago! We met August 18/07, had our first date September 21/07, were engaged July 06/14 and married August 24/14. Of course, a lot has happened in between all those dates!

Our I-130 petition was just delivered to the USCIS Phoenix Lockbox yesterday (August 27/14) and my fingers are crossed that the process goes smoothly.

I am currently living in Edmonton, AB and he is in Seattle, WA, which is where we will reside once I have my visa in hand.

We plan to file for a K-3 visa as soon as we are in receipt of form I-797C.

The only issue we could be dealing with is that I travel monthly to the US on business and I hope I do not come cross an unmoving CBP officer when I do so.

I am prepared to show that I do plan to return to Canada after each visit, and will remember to post any issues I may face.

Stephanie

Hi, I am from Edmonton too! Good luck with the visa

I travel back and forth to visit my fiance in Minnesota and I have yet to have an issue at the Edmonton airport. I always bring with me my return ticket, proof of my visa (application, or now just the approvals of the petition) and I bring info from work showing that they are expecting me back. If you have anything showing you have property here or a lease agreement, I am sure that helps too.

Best advice I was given was always be truthful, but don't offer more info than what they ask and bring ties to home.

I also got a nexus card and found I get less questions when I use that.

I have never traveled across the border for work since entering this process. I would think it is the same, but maybe others will have experiences to share.

Thanks for sharing your experience! Your advice is exactly what I have found elsewhere, but am glad to hear it from a fellow Edmontonian :) I already have a folder prepped showing all my ties to Edmonton, so I should be good to go. Good luck to you as well!

Hi Stephanie,

My wife lives in BC and commutes across the border at Peace Arch via the Nexus lanes weekly . She encounters very few problems but is prepared to provide proof of ties back to BC if there ever was an issue ( lease, paystubs and her business cards where she is the GM of a business in BC). Anecdotally Air and Sea crossings seem to be more iffy as far as the attitude of the US agent and your eligibility or risk of immigration to visit , but you should not have an issue. Canadian citizens can visit 6 months at a time without a visa.

Some kind folks have set up a sticky thread on this subject

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/479894-yes-you-can-visit-ir1-cr1-version/

We are just a few months ahead of you with a wedding (May) and filing i-130 (June), Best wishes for a speedy process !

The content available on a site dedicated to bringing folks to America should not be promoting racial discord, euro-supremacy, discrimination based on religion , exclusion of groups from immigration based on where they were born, disenfranchisement of voters rights based on how they might vote.

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).
