..... Approved but we still can't go on our honeymoon to the Yucatan 'til we receive that friggin' card!

Nice attitude.

Congratulations on your friggin' card.

Maybe you should be thankful you have your friggin' card.

It grants you a few more priveleges than just being able to take a honeymoon. In case you didn't friggin' know that.

rebeccajo, I know you and your husband are going through absolute hell right now and you have every right to be angry about that, but there is no need to lash out at someone like this. I'm pretty sure they were being lighthearted.

Maybe. That makes it no easier for me to see such a cavalier attitude about something some important.

My husband is not the only one waiting. There are over 400,000 immigrants to this country waiting to have their names cleared. Waiting for greencards or to take the oath of citizenship to a country who treats them as if they are second-rate bottom feeders.

They can't travel freely, they can't change jobs easily, they can't apply for college assistance or in some cases even qualify for in-state tuition. Banks and mortgage companies won't touch them with a ten-foot pole. They get 'looks' and 'questions' about their backgrounds when they explain the government is holding up their card because of namecheck clearance. Sometimes their country, its past, and its political issues are held against them in prejudice. Just today on another forum, someone couldn't resist to take a pot-shot at the fact that my husband is from Northern Ireland. As if he were some IRA gun-runner.

Do you think I'm not pissed-off almost beyond the point of reason that this same government would hire in extra staff to speed-process some immigrants, but won't take the time or spend the money to serve those of us waiting in line to have our reputations cleared?

I'm not supposed to get annoyed about a 45 day friggin' greencard?

Sorry, I'm not that generous. Not anymore.

Rebeccajo,

Attitude? My reference to a green card as "friggin'" was a broad description of it due to knowing there are a lot of us that have been through hell because the US immi system is horrible. And, as Mercy pointed out, lighthearted. Please note that my petition was approved, sent to the foreign consulate, interview date in hand, and then recalled back to the US. We have all been hit by USCIS in one way or another.

Having said that, you, my dear, are a b**ch.

And having said that, I do hope your situation is cleared up quickly. And I hope in the future you will see the joy that people share on VJ, not just the sorrow.

Amwo ~ fully aware of the benefits my husband's green card gives him, me and us!

P.S. Thank you all for you kind words of congrats! I hope you all get through this this quickly!

Congrats on such a fast approval.

Going great here, I'm right behind you! I believe you may be the first recalled case that has AOS approval. Sweet!

Susy and I were married on November 17th and it has been wonderful.

Thanks for the encouraging words and positive attitude, hopefully it will be contagious.

I'm happy that you have your card Amwo. And everybody else that has theirs as well. Because I wouldn't wish what we are going through on anyone.

You say your comment was lighthearted.

I doubt that your second more personal comment to me was.

You are right. It wasn't lighthearted. We just got the notice today and have been elated. I come on VJ and I see your post. What would you think? Did you read your post? How would you feel if someone posted that to you? Was I to take it lightheartedly? I think not.

As I said, I'm happy for you.

If it makes you feel better about immigration - that your quick approval somehow makes up for your IMBRA delay - then good. I guess I'd feel that way also.

I wish you all well. I think my time here on VJ is long ago done. The amount of good I tried to do here is now outweighed by the personal torment this journey has taken us on.

We live in a small community. My husband as an immigrant is not a 'freak' but he is an anomoly. While we are strong as a couple and committed to each other, our life here (at least in my estimation) is being affected immensely by his 'limbo' status. He tries to find better work, but employers don't quite 'get' him. He doesn't have the 'typical' proof - the greencard - that the average person recognizes as proof of legal status.

We have serious financial issues bearing down on us, and health concerns as well. We do not need the stress of immigration on our backs.

My continued presence here is doing me no good. I find it very difficult to find the 'joy' in others good fortune. And I really don't know why that is.

*shrugs*

Maybe I'm just in a different place now. I need to abandon one of my worries and I cannot find the one that must go. Not easily. I have really loved this place, this world of people bound trying to get to their loved ones. But as I've moved past the 'visajourney', I increasingly see the 'real life' stage we must play on. I feel betrayed by my government. As a couple we followed all the rules, dotted all the i's and crossed all the t's. Our reward is to be placed on 'hold' - to neither be able to move forward or backward as a family.

I've said before - the load is getting too heavy to bear. Perhaps if I step back from this place I can re-focus. At this point, I really don't know what else to do.

I never meant to offend anyone. Not intentionally. All I wanted was some of the same support I have tried to offer. But the board is vast now - big. It's not possible to touch each other the way we once did.

Words on a screen. People behind them. Something I learned one fall day a few years ago, when I met a man who changed my life. If I cannot do good with my words, then it is time for me to go.

rebeccajo, so sorry for what you are going through and how much this process is taking a toll. So many of us would hate to see you go, but it's certainly understandable (and I'm all too aware of all the others who have recently chosen to leave VJ as well). You've given a ton to this board and helped a zillion people. Wishing you and your husband the best of luck.
