One Way Ticket, or Round Trip Ticket?

I have searched a lot for this and I can't seem to find a direct answer. Is it okay to purchase a Round Trip ticket instead of a one way ticket? I have noticed when researching it is so much more cheaper to do Round Trip, but am concerned this might raise questions at POE. Will this cause problems for my fiance if I buy a round trip for her? Any official links that you know of? Any help would be wonderful.

Purchase what is cheaper... However be sure to cancel your return portion before the date to avoid any issues caused by mistaken airline departure reporting...

I can't see how anyone at POE would know about the return portion of the itinerary. The problem would be with the airline, since most of them prohibit doing this (it's known as "throwaway ticketing"). But the chances of them taking any action against a passenger over a single instance is basically zero, especially if you cancel the return flight in advance (but after you've completed the flight to the US, of course).

Airlines can't do anything about cancellation of tickets... We have done it literally over 40 -50 times (everytime hubby signed on/off a ship for 14 years) as the RT flights are sooo much cheaper... Plus the airlines get to re-sell the seat if you cancel (paid twice for the seat) so they don't give a hoot...

Yes you can, just don't tell the booking agent. :P

Also, if you've a Frequent Flier account, you can buy miles for a one-way ticket. I did that for my fiance, and the ticket was about $500 cheaper, one way, and business class (via miles) versus the $500 more for coach (via cash).

Not exactly. Airlines CAN do something, including taking away your frequent flier miles or even taking you to court to recover the difference in fares, but they rarely do, especially if it's just a single occurrence. See Delta's policy for one example:

Platinum member with 4 airlines, have done this 40-50 times... They do not do anything about it! It would be stupid for them to as they get to double sell the same seat!
