she was nineteen when she first came out of a blackout and realized what she was doing. but she was 11 when her dad started injecting her with coke. so yeah i'd say their relationship was abusive from that point on.

Here's the interview:

http://www.oprah.com/relationships/Mackenzie-Phillips-Family-Secret

Soon after her rape, Mackenzie says she confronted her father. "I said, 'Look, we need to talk about how you raped me,'" she says. "And my dad said: 'Raped you? Don't you mean when we made love?' And, in that moment, I thought, 'Wow, I'm really on my own here.'"

"It became a consensual relationship over time, and I know that I can't be the only one this has happened to," Mackenzie says. "Nobody's talking about this, and someone needs to put a face on not only nonconsensual incest but consensual incest, because I know it exists."

You should have kept reading. His points provide saliency yours lack.

He's wrong about the part about consenting adults being separate from abusive relationships. I'm just not sure why people are gung ho about opposing incest laws for an extreme minority of cases.

You support homosexual relationships, don't you?

Yes, but that's not the same. For obvious reasons.

So if father and son can get it on, or brother and brother, why not brother and sister?

When was incest outlawed up there in Ga anyway? Is this a new statute? Though a little bit icky is this the right application for what could possibly be better-utilized jail space?

These type of laws are always tricky in the US.. The range is pretty amazing: New Jersey has no jail time at all, Ohio only directly punishes Parent/child. Georgia is one of a handful of states (all southern states) that have a sentence of life in prison for the crime of incest.

So seems Duncan is on the side of the Republicans and the religious nuts. Who woulda thunk it. It's a madhouse after all.

Is that a serious question?

I'll tell you what, you think that one through and decide for yourself why I think it is a stupid point.

I'll give you a clue, its not a compelling argument.

I love posts like this. Don't address the question, calls it stupid, but doesn't say way. Why post a response at all?

that was a really stupid question. he shouldn't have to say why because everyone already knows. or should anyway.

I love responses like yours - you get indignant about the reply without considering why it was said.

I don't think it is relevant to anything I have said in this thread.

Karee seems to believe that all opinions are worthy of respect, even if they come out of insane left field and have no bearing on what anyone is talking about.

Of course not, because it doesn't agree with your POV and exposes the hypocrisy.

If sex between two men is ok as long as they are consenting adults, then it should be for siblings, too.

Duncan is against legitimising sexual abuse and predatory relationships. I don't believe there are many cases of incest that are genuinely consensual.

There is no hypocrisy. This is a stupid, stupid tangent.

You just relativized homosexuality and incest into utter meaninglessness. Again there's nothing to say, its just stupid.

Paternal twins separated at birth that meet later in life and fall in love not knowing they are related and then find out..

I know, I said that earlier. I think that's the minority though, the most common form of incest is sexual abuse in the family, both of minors and young adults. I'm against anything that in any way grants legitimacy to that, which legalising incest would by extension.

I don't agree with prosecuting people who for no fault of their own find themselves in an unfortunate situation. I don't think though that this is a strong enough argument to legalise incest.

OK fair enough.

I think then the only area of real disagreement would be two people closely related of consensual age choosing to engage in incest. This has to be pretty rare as most are repulsed by the idea.
