Can anyone please tell me , do you surrender your green card during your interview or they will only photocopy copy and return to you? I heard you surrender it when you get your Citizenship certificate at the Oath Ceremony . Please confirm since i am going overseas this weekend after my interview for a family emergency so i will need my greencard to travel.

No, you don't surrender your GC since you're not US citizen yet.

I'm out of country now after my interview and used GC. ( I had to, actually, right?)

I'm ready to come back to the US before my oath ceremony.

Just reminder, don't travel more than six months, though.

Dear all,

first of all, I would like to introduce myself. I am Italian, had my naturalization interview last July 8th in Santa Ana and am now impatient to take my Oath.

I know that the next Oath Ceremonies will be on July 22 and on august 19th and a few minutes ago I received the following:

my_logo.png
Oath Ceremony Notice Was Mailed

We scheduled your oath ceremony for Receipt Number . We sent a notice with the date, time, and location of your oath ceremony to the address you gave us. Please follow the instructions in the notice. If you do not receive your notice by August 14, 2015, please go to www.uscis.gov/e-request to request a copy of the notice. If you move, go to www.uscis.gov/addresschange to give us your new mailing address.

Since there is the deadline of August 14th, does it mean that my Oath will be on the 19th of August? I am asking because this morning an officer told me they would try to fit me in the July 22nd ceremony.

I look forward to your advise and thank you in advance

J.A.

Hi,

Even if the dead line is August 14th, you could be assigned 7/22 oath ceremony.

My dead line was 8/7, and the oath is 7/22.

The tier2 officer told me if I didn't receive the letter by 7/17, just call them again and they'd provide electric letter.

Just be prepared to attend 7/22 ceremony either in the morning or afternoon.

Dear KTAM,

thank you for the prompt reply! May I ask how you were able to talk to a Tier2 officier in Santa Ana?

Do you have a phone number? I tried to call today but nobody could help me :-(

There's no officer just for Santa Ana.

Call the customer service number and ask to forward to the tier2 officer.

Even they're busy they'll call you back for sure.

I did this process several times and they never failed to call me back.

He or she could provide your oath date if it's determined.

Then ask about the letter if it's 7/22.

Sometimes it depends on the officer how far of the information they'd give you, but it's worth trying.

Good luck!

The letter is usually automated and the date is set 1 month or 4 weeks or some fixed amount of time from the date of the letter.

Just because it says August 14th doesn't mean that you won't be scheduled for the July 22nd ceremony. It also doesn't mean that you'll be scheduled for the August 19th ceremony.

You will probably be in the July ceremony.

I checked the site for San Antonio and they have a ceremony on the 23rd, so when I saw that my deadline was July 29th, I thought the same thing you are thinking. But I received my letter and will be going to SA next week... :joy:

Now, something else I noticed... twice now I had to reset my password for my case status online.... and I wrote them down, so know for a fact that I had the correct one, but both times I had not logged in for about a week. And one other reason for the password needing to be reset is inactivity on the account.... but no logging in for a week seems way to short for this to happen....

Hopefully things go as planned and this time next week I won't need to log in ever again....
