We are talking about all children in general. A friend of mine is a school teacher and has seen children who cannot tell the time unless it is digital . Ran across some seniors in high school ... 5 white boys and they just had a flat tire.. Not one knew how to change a car tire. Something covered in shop class when I went to high school. In relation, at what age were most children your age proficient in the use of a sun dial? It's not necessarily stupidity driving these changes, it's the changes in technology. How many cashiers at the local supermarket do you think could make change without the register telling them how much to give? Probably very few, if any. It's not necessarrily because they're stupid, it's because technology and the way things are taught have been changed. 40 years ago we used pencil and paper to figure out math problems, nowadays kids can use calculators.

So according to you educational standards have fallen and your suggestion is to throw guns into the mix.

Why stop there, they could have a school driving course - since doubtless many will be indoctrinated into the military when they grow up. What about artillery lessons - using that math to work out the trajectories?

We don't allow kids to drive a vehicle until the age of 16, join the military or vote until 18, or drink alcohol until the age of 21, but some here think it's perfectly fine for a 9 year old to be shooting an Uzi.

Don't you think we could give up a few days of black history month or Hispanic history month to teach real world skills. ... Why cannot you think of the children...You complain about gun deaths and a logical course of action would be teaching a child not to fear a gun as advocated by you anti's today.. In today's world, with today's technology? No, not so much. It would be nice if everyone did possess that knowledge, but I don't believe it's a necessity. Why do you believe they are needed?
