Once again, the focus is on the gun, when the reason there has been a fatality (of the idiot) is because the weapons instructor was an idiot. His ego far outstripped his situational awareness and the result ended his life, while likely ruining that of a nine year old girl.

But no, the gun is the focal point to most people. It's sad, really. :(

There's usually only 2 variables in these events, an idiot and a gun. We can make the idiot the focal point, but it ultimately leads to the question - why do so many idiots have guns?

Unless you know a way of regulating idiots, the focus has to be on the gun.

Amazing isn't it? When someone is shot there seems to always be a gun present. It is almost as though you would need a gun in order to shoot someone, when we all know this 9-yo could just as easily have killed the instructor by simply throwing ammo at him.

#facepalm

But without the human element, the gun is completely inert, incapable of causing harm. The human element, being an idiot, is what proves deadly, every time. Not so hard to understand, really. ;)

And whenever someone is killed in a car accident, a car is present! Wow! Guns are present when people get shot. I'm seeing a pattern here.

Birth control, way more idiots have children than guns.

It is for some, yet they have no problem understanding drunk driving and car accidents. I'm thinking it is selective.

and liquid s present when people drown

Air is absent when they suffocate

And so forth and so on

I need to put my shades on . The dazzle is killing me

No. Because guns are inert without human input. Therefore, it is the human input that causes catastrophe, not the gun. ;)

But it's a gun. It has no purpose but to kill innocent people. And just the name Uzi makes it even more so. Of course most everyone in this thread has forgotten that Mom and Dad were proudly taking a video of their little girl's shooting lesson. But obviously an inept instructor and parents allowing their child to do something that she was not qualified to do has nothing to do with the accident. The gun did it.

And look how often a knife is used in a stabbing. And when someone is beaten to death with a baseball bat, most of the time a baseball bat is used. That is the constant in these deaths.

And you see it this way and you're not even really pro gun.

Not even a bit pro-gun.

But I'm well aware that there are in excess of 350 million firearms in circulation at this point in time, so, even if there were to be a reinterpretation of the Second Amendment, the likelihood of removing firearms from the American way of life is statistically less than Danno voting for Hillary Clinton in 2016.

Therefore, you have to work on the people side of the equation, as it's the only side where you can make a significant difference. It's the side that should receive attention, from proper training in the use of weapons to careful assessment of owners, to acting on the root causes behind everyday gun crime.

Guns aren't the problem. The people using them are. Every time.

I've also said this here many times. But rationale doesn't go over too well with some. They want to make more laws making it illegal to own an illegal gun. No sense enforcing the ones we have. Ditto for immigration.

Wow! The fact that the girl is 9 years old completely escapes you?

It doesn't escape me. But I was 7 when I got my first rifle. Single-shot .22, and taught how to handle it by my grandfather. By the ripe old age of 8, I was out in the woods by myself hunting rabbits and squirrels for dinner. Age is not necessarily a disqualifier. The gun was not a smart choice, not if what I heard was true (that is WAS a full-auto Uzi). Though the news video claimed that, it did not show her firing at all, so hard to say.
