single shot? i was under the impression the girl lost control when the uzi was placed in full auto?

If that's the case, the instructor was even more of an idiot than if it was semi auto. That is a big piece of the story that is missing. Obviously he wasn't using proper safety techniques or he wouldn't have been killed. It's much more likely to happen on full auto.

No, it would not. Of course it matters. Your making a big deal out of it because it was *gasp* an Uzi, that's all. The girl was at a firing range being to shotgun by a careless instructor. What laws do you suggest passing that would prevent this?

I learned to shoot before that age.

It's called common sense, you either have it or you don't.

It's not missing, someone posted it a few posts back.

There are so many people that have no right being anywhere near a gun. But hey, it's their constitutional right.

The BBC article had the above details.

And isn't 9 a bit young to start educating someone on gun safety that involves actual gun handling?

Thanks for the additional info. It makes more sense if it was full auto. No, 9 isn't too young for hands on handling, IMO. Shooting a machine gun uassisted, yes. Shooting any gun unassisted before they are ready, yes.

But how do you define ready? Is the a quiz you have to pass? Is it a gut feeling? Is readiness based a mental or physical preparedness for gun handling?

At 9 why train a child on an Uzi vs a simple handgun or a rifle?

This link says the instructor says "Alright, full auto" after she fires it single shot.

The guy really messed up.

I wonder what training the child's parents have in gun handling/safety since they allowed the instructor to put the weapon on auto.

Perhaps she had this instruction a year or two prior. .

Not uncommon when I was growing up.. Guess what was uncommon. Gun crime... How is that possible

In that case, I learned on VJ, that he really deserved to die. Stupidity should carry the death penalty, according to some people here.

It might have something to do with the population of the USA having doubled in the intervening years.

Also we live in an era where information is ubiquitous. Back in the day, many of these mishaps remained local and the country was none the wiser.

That's certainly true.

It's like the rarity of divorce back then being used to suggest that married couples were happier. It's a false premise.
