Didn't you have an Uzi growing up?

We were just having a family discussion today. My daughters birthday is coming up and we can't decide between a trip to Disney World or a sub machine gun.

Now that I think back on this......... no I wasn't. Learning to dye the hair of my little pony was a better fit.

An AK47 might be a better touch. The weapon of choice!!

When you look at it, this story is the perfect case-study as to why kids shouldn't be allowed to have guns. After all, don't we already infringe on the freedom of our kids by limiting their ability to drive, consume alcohol and tobacco?

Seriously, who is the nincompoop who thought it a good idea to give a gun to a 9-yo?

That highlights the absurdity of this situation nicely.

A totally pointless accident. Ridiculous.

Absof***lutely!

How is educating a 9 year old on how to use an uzi beneficial to the U.S.

She should be in tutoring, piano lessons, taking up a foreign language. Not learning to use weapons that murder millions around the world everyday at the age of 9. She we throw in cigars and liquor too?

Join the club. That kind of discussion is taking place all over the country on a daily basis. A teenage girl today is nothing to her peers unless she has the latest UZI. It is the ultimate accessory! As if!

I'd rather the school system makes sure people can read, write and add up properly before we start discussing whether introducing firearm safety classes to the under 11s in public schools is a good idea.

Don't you think we could give up a few days of black history month or Hispanic history month to teach real world skills. ... Why cannot you think of the children...You complain about gun deaths and a logical course of action would be teaching a child not to fear a gun as advocated by you anti's today.. Teach them if they encounter a gun the safe and proper use of a firearm. ... Skills that would enable them to make a decision to save their live or the life of a friend.

Yes safety is important.

It's probably worthwhile to note that none of the children appear to be in possesion of a machine gun.

Perhaps she had this instruction a year or two prior. .

You've said you think there are too many shooting deaths and gun accidents. Safety and education can go a long way to reducing that. We need responsible gun owners but unfortunately this instructor made a grave error and this girl will probably be severely effected by this accident. If you want responsible gun owners and users, they need to be taught proper safety and shooting.

Teaching a 9 year old proper gun safety and how to shoot is fine. It wouldn't be the first thing on my child's to do list, but I get that it is for some. Teaching a 9 year old to shoot an Uzi is ridiculous no matter how you slice it. When I was 9 I was taught proper gun safety and how to shoot by shooting bb guns. When did we make the jump to machine guns?

I bet you used to have an Atari as well. Need to get with the program. BB guns are so 1970s. Anything that fires less than 30 rounds a second is lame.
