I don't actually think you are a racist. I do think that your issue with false claims of racism is used to justify you saying things that can be perceived that way.

See? A reasonable response and I didn't question your spelling or grammar or use a personal anecdote to insult you by proxy.

My bad grammar is assumed. You are supposed to do better.

That is why it is funny, when i point out someone else's grammar flub

everyone keeps referring to the instructor like he was giving shooting lessons and i have a hard time with that given the nature of the business that the lessons were taking place in. it seems more a tourist spot than a place to seriously show children how to operate a weapon. i get that you want to place blame on the parents for making a bad decision, but it seems like getting your kid to shoot an uzi, take a couple photos, have a burger and a beer is the entire draw to the establishment. not that the parents drove their kids all the way down from jersey to shoot an uzi, but that is certainly something this place advertises, in a manner normally seen in pushing hermit crab starter kits at the beach..

No matter if the sell burgers or not. Humans and poor decisions are the culprit

Maybe because I have been around guns all my life and don't harbor any more fear of them than a rake, a lawn mower, or a chain saw, I don't see it that way.

It shouldn't be illegal to operate any of those items (of increasing danger to the end user), nor should the government regulate them. The adult supervision is responsible for deciding the WHEN a particular child or teen should use them.

The instructor was the trained individual who should have known better. HE is responsible for the accident, plain and simple. The little girl is completely innocent. The parents? One could argue they had no idea it could happen, but they allowed the event to take place, knowing their daughter had never used one before. "Common sense" SHOULD have argued for more adult intervention. But I still say the majority of the blame is on the instructor.

And while I agree that the bold part is a great idea before owning or operating a gun, it strikes me as a bit unreasonable to require it as a law. I have taken my kids to the range, and they have shot various types of weapons after being taught by me. Good enough, and probably better than some instructors could have ever done.

I don't fear guns. I fear idiots with guns and there are far too many of them out there.

There are reasons why age restrictions are put on certain things, it's because most children do not possess the proper cognitive skills to operate them. The fact that guns are able to get a free pass from any common sense laws such as age restrictions and proper training is ridiculous.

The fact that you are responsible in teaching your kids proper firearm use does not mean that everyone else is. That's why we have these laws, to protect the general public from idiots. What would you say if by chance it was one of your kids that accidentally got shot by a reckless person with a gun? Would you still think common sense should be left up to the user?

Again, I'm wondering why we are talking about whether it's a good idea to teach children to fire military grade firearms, rather than the much more important topic of whether or not it is a good idea to use a flamethrower in the house ;-)

In some parts of the world a nine year old needs to know how to handle an Uzi, unless she wants to become a child bride or convert her religion.

Education is what you get from reading the small print. Experience is what you get from not reading it.

The mindset is bizarre to say the least. I do my best to understand it, but I just can't get there.

pretty sure an uzi protects little for children in such situations.

I'm sorry, what does this have to do with the OP?
