question about green card

Hi everyone! I just had a question. I received my two year green card a few weeks ago and instead of it being issued in my married name it was issued in my maiden name. I called uscis and they told me if was fine to keep and I didn't need to change it if I didn't want to, I just may run into a few issues. I've come back to Canada for a visit and was wondering if anyone has had any issues with going back through customs with a green card that is in the maiden name? Any insight would be appreciated!

The green card is issued in whatever name you use as your primary name on the I-485. Generally, you should aim to keep your green card and passport name the same (i.e. keep both maiden or change both to married). If there is a mismatch then you should carry a copy of your marriage certificate to document the name change, until the names match.

Which name did you put on the I-485?

My passport is still in my maiden name so they both match. My husband filed it out and he thought he put it in my married name but he could of made a mistake.

When I contacted customs they said as long as the passport and green card match I should be fine. I just didnt know if this happened to anyone else or what their experience of entering back in was

Travelling is fine, it just means you have to travel with your marriage certificate.

Did you make a copy of your AOS paperwork? If so you may be able to get it changed without the fee if the mistake was by the USCIS.
