GRE is for grad school.

Undergrad she's looking at the SAT or ACT.

If she already has a degree, she might be able to waive those. But if she already has a degree, she should just get an MA or post-bac certificate rather than take on four years of undergrad.

Hey guys, been quite awhile since i've been back on here but I find myself circling back for some advice. My wife, who has her conditional green card, is trying to apply for college. She's going to take the TOELF and studying hard for to take the SAT too. Her problem is trying to apply for schools, she's lost and well I am too. It's been forever since I went through the college process and on top of that many things have currently changed. She's trying to fill out the Common Application (which is 100% new to me). Do any of you know of any resources to help us understand what to do, or even someone on here who has gone through the process that could help her?

Hi i applied an application to attend the college but i found out that i have to pay alot of money because i recently moved to USA , i couldn't attend the college for this reason right now,

did they asked your wife to pay something?

I have to wait 1 more year after getting the GC (hopefully this September!) before I can qualify for in-state tuition and FAFSA loan/financial aid. I'm in CA. So continuing my education is on hold for now.

Check my timeline for K-1 visa & AOS details

My then 19-yo stepson arrived in the US in late July 2012. My wife and I took him to the local community college (CC) to register for undergraduate studies for the upcoming fall quarter. He had already taken his SAT and TOEFL tests in China prior to arrival. After talking with the admissions and financial aids office folks, he was required to take some English and Math proficiency tests, and was able to take classes, paying at the non-resident rate. The following February (mid-winter quarter), I sent in documentation from me (USC, 15(+)-year state resident) that included a lot of documentation that proved my residency in the state, a copy of our first MSJ Fed Income Tax 1040 (listing him as a dependent), and a copy of the 2-yr conditional GC he had received the previous November to the CC Financial aids office. They determined that he was a resident for tuition purposes for the current quarter and thereafter, and refunded a portion of the previous quarter's tuition from the time he had received his GC.

We were most pleased for him to have started at a local CC. For him, the CC with its smaller atmosphere, less confusing than a large university was just the ticket for my stepson. He graduated this past spring from the CC with a 3.9 CGPA, and this fall will be admitted as a resident transfer junior to the University of Washington-Seattle campus, majoring in a currently very popular Engineering discipline. We have done the FAFSA thing, they say that we earn too much. But we are strongly encouraging him to apply for any, and all, scholarships and grants.

Go in and talk with the admissions and financial aids office. The rules and regulations likely differ from one institution to another, and from one state to another.

YMMV,

Good luck on your immigration journey.
