My husband was able to online decline jury duty once because he no longer lived in that county and was leaving the state for 6 weeks. It was mandatory that he go because of job training for his work.

There should be a self-addressed envelope allowing you to state a reason why you are ineligible for jury duty.

Just say you are not a U.S. citizen and mail it back. Then call them a few days later with your juror ID # and confirm that they have removed you from the jury duty list.

I don't know what state the OP is in, but the last time I showed up for jury duty in CA, they wouldn't compensate folks until they were actually assigned to a trial... and compensation for travel was only based on zip code... significant because I live a rural region and a zip code can cover a large area, so potentially folks were driving a long distance that wouldn't be reflect in mileage compensation. But I agree if the OP's state offers compensation for coming in, s/he should accept it the same as others that come in.

Thank you

i'm in California State ,

If you are not a US citizen, make a photo copy of your passport bio page and send it back in along with a word document in which you notify them that you are not US citizen. That's all. If you're a USC, you would probably not be asking what this is. Every USC gets jury duty service calls and 99% of the time (by checking online on and off) gets canceled...LOL But you are probably not a USC so just go ahead and make a copy of your bio page on your passport, write up a word document and send it back, and you're done. Nothing to panic about. You don't even have to go to the court hearing or anything if you mailed this off.

I think a copy of the green card would be more effective. Many USC's have dual (or more) citizenship.

From time to time mistakes are made

& LPRs get jury duty letters (I have a pal got it)

it was about 15 mths after they have bought a

home, he went to the court and sort it out with

the Clerk showing GC and his name was removed.

Only if u r a USC, or u filled out voters registration you

sit on a jury

On the back of your letter for Jury Duty, look at the section JURY AFFIDAVIT QUESTIONNAIRE - DISQUALIFICATION SECTION - I AM NOT QUALIFIED

The first entry, 1. I AM NOT A CITIZEN of the United States. I am a citizen of Country: __________________

Fill it out, send it back, and forget about it.

This is the very best advice. Never trust that someone answering a phone could or would take the appropriate actions to eliminate you from a jury pool list. From my experience you will most likely never be removed and will continue to get these notices as long as you live in the USA. The clerks office is overwhelmed everyday by numerous pending cases. If you ever have to appear in court just look at the pile of papers public defenders have when they appear before the judge.

I work in the court system. (Prosecutors) Trust me. Unless you want to take a chance at a bench warrant being issued for contempt of court you should appear IN PERSON at the proper place at the proper time with the letter in hand as well as your LPR card and other identification. I would NEVER trust calling the court and hoping that the person I talked to really took proper action to see that I was in fact excused. I would go IN PERSON. The court clerk will want to see your green card and probably at least one other ID (drivers license?) I would also bring my passport along just in case. You can never be too careful. Specially when you have an ROC pending. Be safe. And don't forget to get your jury duty fee for appearing as ordered.

The kindness we give to others may never be recognized by the ugly souls we encounter in the vast jungle of humanity, but what we give will echo brilliantly in the smiles of those who have received it.

I live in CA, and my husband received a jury summons before he became a citizen. We simply marked "Not a citizen" on the form and sent it back. Shortly after we received a letter excusing him from serving. If you do this and haven't heard back with a letter, you could always go down there and talk to someone, but I doubt that will be necessary. Every person I've known that had a valid reason for not being able to go in and returned the response from with that reason, received a letter excusing them.

I should add that you can probably do it over the phone too. At the very least you can call and try, and regardless of what they say, mail in the form staying your ineligibility. I recommend making a photocopy of your jury duty summons and keeping it for your records, so that you know your juror ID # and have proof that you mailed back the document staying you are not a U.S. citizen.

Hi , i just received a letter from superior court of California jury services, i dont understand the content of the letter, can somebody plz explain to me why i received this letter and what this letter means?

here what is in the letter in brief:

Thank you for taking the time to fulfill this important civic responsibility, i ve included some information below that will make your experience as a juror more enjoyable ............................................

all jurors entering the courthouse are required to go through a weapons screening process conducted by the sheriffs department, please do not bring into the courthouse any objects that could be used as a weapon................................................

jury service is a minimum of one day only if you are not assigned to a courthouse, if you are assigned to a courthouse you should be prepared to complete a trial

please can somebody explain to me what this letter means , i worried too much as quick as i read this letter , your help is much appreciated, i'm waiting for your help

If you are NOT a citizen, you should return back the form with the proper option selected (that you are not). If you are a citizen, then all this is an opportunity to see justice in action and get 6 bucks (at least that's how much you get in TX)

The Summons they sent you in the back there is a form to be excuse from jury duty, all you have to do is just write the reason why you want to be excused which is you are not a us citizen and send a copy of your greencard I actually was selected three times two times I was LPR. Don't worry all good. Jury duty is just to be at the court with a jurors to discuss a case sometime it takes hours some times it takes days to months
