it's clearly a competition to point out that racism exists, but only towards white people. oh and plus ones - those are uber important.

Something very unpleasant is coming out in these threads. The American equivalent of holocaust denial - slavery wasn't that bad, racism doesn't exist, and the experience of being white and middle class in the USA is equivalent to the experience of a black person around the time The Colour Purple was set.

It's a disgusting point of view.

I've said it before but you really have to feel for the white man these days.

Equally disgusting is the way people are bringing racism into anything where there is even the most tenuous link, and trying to make the racism element into the main focal point of the discussion. In a way, it's the modern equivalent of the boy who cried wolf. Over-saturation will only numb people to the issue, so that when a case where racism is the main issue arises, the chance to use it to improve things will be lost. :(

You're just trying to relativize what he wrote. I get what you're saying and you're not wrong, but the comment I responded to deserves direct, unequivocal condemnation.

Are you prepared to do that?

exactly. Pick your battles. There is a reason they picked Rosa Parks to make a stand, and not the first few women of color who refused to give up their seat and were arrested.

My point is completely separate and relativises nothing. It is more of a co-existing issue than anything, but one which drags down both sides of the racism argument. Until people realise this, we won't make any progress combating true racism.

If you want to address true racism, perhaps you should start with the comment about whites today being in the same boat as blacks in the 20s.

I'm serious, it's a grotesque statement and not one that should be deflected or downplayed.

Why? Because you say I should? Who died and made you Emperor?

I see the issue differently. I see people desperate to make racism an issue where it is not, thereby harming cases where it really is. I see the real harm such a drive does to making the USA a truly post-racial society. And I see good people powerless to effect real change, because their voices are drowned out by the white noise. :(

Look.. down at the masses.. they just don't get it like you..

Again.. ZERO people have said anything close to this.. Just a bunch of people that hug that grudge for all its worth to make themselves feel better so they can have an excuse to post for pictures of racist stuff. Others have p0rn.

I don't believe it.. Prove it to me and I still won't believe it. -Ford Prefect

Why? You will say it over and over and over and over and over and over..

Up! clean up with a kleenix

and over and over and over and over and over...

Feels good huh? Please sir, post some more pics of white people doing wrong.

Maybe tomorrow we can hear how air has molecules or something else just as obvious that the group hear seems to think only club members know.

I already said I agree with you.

I just think there's a difference between talking in hand waving generalities and addressing a blatantly racist comment in this forum.

Maybe I say it over and over because you people like to bang on and on and on about race in thread after thread (and clearly you aren't tired of it yet), to the point that you are blind deaf and dumb when confronted with something truly indefensible.

Well done you

That's not true I'm afraid.
