As was pointed out in the other thread - 50 years isn't a huge amount of time to level the playing field.

Hmmm... well at least we know what your bias is.

Show me a post that says racism is non existent.

I believe racism is a problem and always will be but not at the levels that you and your like minded peeps believe it to be.

That's ignorance at it's finest. I would think they would want to bury that word.

If you're interested in the linguistic theory behind that, the adoption of that word into the colloquial vocabulary has given it a different meaning for some speakers.

In short - its meaning is determined by who the speaker is.

And yes, the use of the word (regardless of speaker) is highly controversial.

Really? The overall message I get from VJ is you have the group that believes that racism is everywhere and a huge problem vs it exists and always will but is not at near the levels the other side say that it is

Darn Forrest. You should go into journalism.. You got it nicely. except for the two of us in the middle.

He summed it up quite nicely..

So.. I ordered my wife some really hot shoes for this weekend:

I would apologize to everyone for veering off topic but I have it on good authority that crack researchers are scanning the internet for more racist pictures so we should get a fresh batch of "can-you-beleive-this!" threads tomorrow.

I don't believe it.. Prove it to me and I still won't believe it. -Ford Prefect

Yeah now it's common for black people to call each other the N word. Progress.

Because some do it doesn't make it right nor acceptable.

Please use common sense when posting.

Well I imagine it will have something to do with the fact that when the N-word was in common usage across the USA, blacks were being lynched and hanged from trees.

Due to social progress, that doesn't happen anymore, however we have acquired a racist term to describe white people. From this we can clearly conclude that the experience of whites today is the same as that of blacks from yesteryear.

Actually, from what I understand is that "cracker" is a term that comes from way back in the slavery days when the slave owners cracked their whip. I, personally, cannot see how I could take offense to the word. Whereas, the "N" word was and is used often in a derogatory manner.

In addition, I've heard more white people justify using the "N" word to describe blacks because blacks call each other that and they call us "crackers." Yet, I think I've heard maybe one black person ever say "cracker."

I never heard the term "cracker" until the George Zimmerman trial.

The pasty white englishmen strikes again with another fine post about something he knows nothing about.

I do try with the tan, but having hair makes it difficult to tan the top of my head. You have no such problems.

Personally I have always preferred being called a cracker rather than being called a peckerwood. Cracker makes me chuckle.

Peckerwood is omni-racial

I heard that way back in the late 70s early 80s in Detroit. At first I didn't know they were talking about me until I realized I was the only white kid in the room. It was tough growing up being a minority. Not speaking the language etc.
