Include Proof of Wedding Plans in K-1 Petition?

Hello!

I have read in several K-1 guides the need to include documentation of plans for a wedding with the K-1 fiancé petition. This includes agreements with venue(s), officiant, caterer, photographer, etc.

I do not see any reference to the inclusion of this information in the K-1 Visa Guide here on VisaJourney.

Can anybody speak to the necessity of including this information with a K-1 Fiancé Petition?

Not necessary at all to include plans.

Also it isn't advised to make plans until you have the visa in hand as time changes, you don't know how long the process will take and they understand that too.

I know I didn't. VJ expressly warns people to avoid making arrangements with venues, until the Visa is actually in your hands.

I didn't have such plan and therefore I didn't submit such evidence.

They don't require this because they can't guarantee approving your K1 visa.

However, after you are married, and afterwards when you file for the Green Card (AOS),

those evidence would be very good to provide.

If you've been reading VJ posts, you will note at least once a month,

someone gets into complication by trying to predict the visa approval date

and making some wedding ceremony arrangements...and it backfires.

I am including some of that information in my embassy intent to marry statement and a letter for the person officiating the ceremony. Both the venue that I have and the person are extremely flexible and know that we don't have a date set. The letter from the person officiating states that he's going to perform it and that he is aware that it must be done within the 90 day timeframe. Other than that I haven't made any plans and I don't feel it's necessary for more proof that we're planning a wedding. I've seen folks include pictures of wedding dresses and receipts or the engagement ring receipt and picture as proof.

I wouldn't think that proof of wedding plans, caterer, photographer, venue, etc could be a requirement because not everyone has a wedding like that. I know I'm not. They can't require u to plan a certain type of wedding.

Logically, setting plans for ANY kind of marriage (great point, LionessDeon) without having any guarantee of a timeline makes no sense. However, there are so many caveats in this process it is helpful to hear what you are doing/have done successfully!

My fiancé is Rastafarian, we are having a private intimate ceremony with my sister as the officiant (she married my brother and his wife too!). I'm praying for an April ceremony so we'll see.

No firm plans til VISA in hand. However, you can (and probably should) include information about wedding plans - are you doing a religious ceremony? Do you share a religious faith? Have you thought about logistics? Are you going to have a courthouse legaling and then a religious ceremony later?

This seems to be an especially important detail for people of mixed religions or ethnic backgrounds, and for high risk countries. You basically want to show you're actually thinking about ceremonies, weddings, etc. (Just based on what I've read here. We front-loaded with the information in our package, but that's because we were thinking ahead through the entire process.)

Hopefully your situation is different, but we recently received an RFE specifically asking for proof of wedding plans, such as reservations for a venue, documentation of discussions of plans, etc. We were also specifically asked for engagement photographs. We are also an interracial couple with an Indian beneficiary. I completed the I-129F application correctly per the instructions, and even included Facebook and Skype logs, i.e. those things recommended for "front loading" a petition. However, I did not include specific plans of weddings, beyond our declaration of intent to marry letters. Given our recent experiences, I think it may be wise to address it in some way

You are not required to include proof of wedding plans. For my petition though, I remember including receipts of my wedding dress, the engagement ring, and of our wedding rings.

For the I-129F petition, you are only required to submit evidence you are legally able and willing to marry within 90 days of beneficiary's arrival to the US. The signed letter of intent serves this purpose. Therefore, it is not required to submit any wedding plans, any other proofs of engagement, etc. Your letter of intent serves as your engagement proof.

Wow, now I have something new to worry about! We talk about possible options, but cannot make any real plans because I really want an outdoor wedding yet we have no idea what time of year (season) our wedding will take place. We are purchasing wedding rings together when he is here. Great.....this is not good news.

In reality you cannot submit plans as you have no idea when you will get the visa never mind anything else. I certainly did not include anything of the sort, we submitted petition on Dec 2012 and got visa Sept '13

What exactly did your RFE say? I saw in your timeline it was for more evidence of intent to marry. This is referring to your letter of intent. Both you and your fiancé are required to submit a signed letter of intent. USCIS does not care about your wedding plans.
