Interview letter received yesterday and scheduled for Dec. 15.

For those still waiting, you have to bombard them with calls or INFOPASS. By the way, the new design of the website is really great, you can look up your case history and for those who have called before or had a service request, you can see the action taken on those requests.

Good luck.

I really don't understand this MissAL. How did they process a March 31 application before a March 6?

According to the processing time page on the USCIS website, the date listed is "the filing date of the last case that the office completed before updating the chart". https://egov.uscis.gov/cris/processingTimesDisplay.do;jsessionid=bfaCKV2CU7M7j-hB_qANu

Even though someone may have filed on March 6th, his/her application may have been held up so that applications that were filed later have moved ahead of it in line. If the status says that they are processing March 31st applications, it doesn't mean that they've finished all the previously submitted applications. This makes the processing status rather useless if you ask me.

Two possible reasons for this are:

- The March 6th background and name checks could have taken longer than the checks for th March 31st applicant. Sometimes background checks get stalled and the local office won't start processing the application until the proper checks are received. So if the background check for the 6th applicant cleared on June 15 but the background check cleared for the 31st applicant on June 1st, then the March 31st applicant would now be ahead in line.

-This is my understanding of how things work, but to be honest, this is just a theory, so just take it for what it's worth: Some field offices simply put all the applications in one group and every time an officer finishes an application, he/she is assigned an application from the top of the pile. However, some offices divide the incoming applications into groups and assign each pile to a different officer. If your application is assigned to a slow officer, it can slip behind applications that were filed later. It's like being in line at the grocery store and realizing that you're waiting on a slow cashier.

I think that because of this, you shouldn't pay much attention to these dates exept to get a general idea of what's going on. For example, if the date changes to May 15th then that may be cause for concern because that means that the March 6th application has slipped by several months.

I understand your anxiousness and I would be anxious too, but Atlanta is an extremely slow office. Keep an eye on things, but don't worry too much about that 31st versus 6th issue. Also, if the dates keep progressing and you don't hear anything, you should start contacting them and maybe go in for a visit.

Thanks very much :-)

I try to read other people's experiences and the USCIS guidelines so I can understand what's going on, but in the end I'm just guessing most of the time, just like everyone else!

I'm sure all the waiting is frustrating, but we'll get there eventually!
