Take a look at this helpful document recently posted by another user (pdf in the first post):

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/511374-check-this-out-n-400/

By far, Atlanta has the worst ratio of pending applications to approved applications.

During the period form April 1st to June 30th, Atlanta approved 5,000 applications while 14,000 applications were still pending.

That's a ratio of almost 3 to 1.

In comparison, Houston approved, 9,000 and had 15,000 pending.

The only office that comes close is New York.

I think this means that Atlanta is just severely understaffed for the number of cases they're handling. It's probably because the Atlanta office is responsible for both the states of George and Alabama. There has probably been an increase in immigrants in those states over the past few years, but office staff increases have not kept up.

Interesting enough I see where an applicant with PD in April got approved for Interview while my PD is in march. So i am not sure if they do it in order of FIFO.

same day Interview and Oath ceremony

I don't know, but I really hope so! I told my husband to ask to do it the same day if possible. I don't want him to get stuck being one of those people who randomly has to wait a year just for the oath. We'll see what happens when he goes.

Atlanta does - or used to - offer same day ceremonies if you meet the criteria. The criteria are that you need to have completed your successful interview prior to 11 am that morning and that there is an oath ceremony scheduled for that afternoon. I believe the actual ceremony happens around 4 pm but you need to be there no later than 2 for the final processing. The 11 am cut-off ensures that they will have time to prepare the Citizenship Certificate in time for the ceremony.

The day I had my interview (at 1:15 pm), people were already arriving for the afternoon's ceremony. I asked during my interview about attending that session, and that is when the USCIS officer told me about the time cut-off. As it was, the next oath ceremony was 2 weeks later so I was scheduled for that. When I arrived at 2 pm there were people there waiting for the Citizenship interviews. Definitely a sense of deja-vu! :)

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

I actually asked about same-day ceremonies when I had my interview....I was the first interview of the day.

The IO told me that Atlanta only does it for people that have travelled over 100 miles or so to get there.

I was disappointed as we were going away for a month the next week....The IO put a big yellow highlighted note on my approval form, saying "No ceremony until...XXX"

Updating with interview date. Also edited in hopes of getting each entry on the same line. I took out the Field Office column, since this is an Atlanta thread.
