FORT LEE, Va. (AP) — An active shooter has been reported at the Fort Lee Army base in central Virginia.

Army officials say the base is on lockdown and personnel have been told to enact active shooter protocols.

The four-story building involved is the headquarters for the Army's Combined Arms Support Command.

No other details were immediately available. The Department of Homeland Security uses the term "active shooter" to describe someone actively trying to kill people, usually in populated areas, with no pattern of choosing victims.

Fort Lee is about 25 miles south of Richmond and about 130 miles from Washington. According to the military's website, Fort Lee is the Army's third-largest training site. Its daily population is 34,000, with service members, families, civilians and contractors.

Wow. I went to school there. It was the best 4 month vacation of my life. After having been in the infantry, doing time at good OL FT lee was awesome. 8-4, off every weekend, VA beach right up the road. Tons of female soldiers running around lose.

A female soldier with a gun inside a key building turned the weapon on herself, causing an injury, but didn't wound any others as a heavily trafficked Virginia Army base temporarily went on lockdown Monday morning.

Early reports indicate that the soldier fired one shot inside a four-story building that is the headquarters for the Army's Combined Arms Support Command, according to a military news release. The shooter was taken to Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center and her condition wasn't known, according to the Army. VCU confirmed that it received a patient from Fort Lee but did not give other details.

When i went to a Logistics officer course there back in 86, there were some wierd female birds there. We had one LT, who had flunked out of OCS, but filed a sexual Hoarserassment suit, because the TAC officer sprayed a fire extinguisher in here room, and she had not been fully dressed. So they basically made her a 2nd lt. She could not pour piss out of a boot, and slept with everybody in the building. A real head case.
