The sociologists found that both groups of blacks were disadvantaged relative to whites in socioeconomic background, yet the educational experiences of immigrant blacks are more closely aligned with those of whites than native blacks. Immigrant black and white children are more likely than native black children to come from two-parent households and to attend private schools, two factors that have been shown to have a positive impact on attending an elite college.

I personally believe that having a two parent household is one of the biggest, if not the biggest factor in the success of a child. It is extremely difficult for a single parent (usually the Mother), to properly raise and prepare a child for success in life. It can be done, but more often than not, the child or children tend to slip through the cracks.

Interestingly in other threads about police shootings - the focus is on how the cops are trigger happy.

Why is it when the victim is black and there's even a hint of a racial motive (true or not) the focus isn't at all on the motivations/behaviour of the police officer?

That's nice. The cops didn't know the gun was a toy and according to police accounts, when he was told to drop the gun he turned and pointed it at them. Really doesn't matter that he was leaning on the gun before he got shot.

I'll be the first to call anyone out on racism in any situation, when it is positively shown that it played a part. Otherwise it's he said/she said.
