Because as val pointed out, there's no discussion about the white community. There's no "well whites commit crime". There's no comments like, he had it coming, or he had a felony so he must have done something.

Well no kidding. That's because no one is claiming a racial component when a white guy gets shot by the cops. That only happens when a black guy is shot. In fact it seems the only time race is brought into it, is when it's a black person. FYI black folks aren't the only minority in this country. They're just the ones that commit the most crimes.

Actually, when we look at the FBI chart, white people commit more crime. But that's because it's more of them here. Funny how those crimes seems to be ignored.

Now here's the joke. You guys can't stand Al or Jesse, yet when a white kid gets killed, you want them to speak out for you?

Police brutality is a problem, but only when it's someone you can relate to.

Baa I don't want al or jesse speaking for me

You can select which part of my post you wish to read or emphasize, just as you can opt to misinterpret his meaning. At the end of the day, it doesn't change the overall correctness of said posts, it just shows your own lack of ability to grasp the meaning, or (I hope not) your own narrow mindedness.

I always respond in kind.

On a separate note, you better watch out lest you be accused of using fancy words. Being articulate is frowned upon by some here...

not true. and the only reason why the other articles don't turn into 100 page threads is because when a black person is killed by a cop we have to talk about the 'black community' and crime statistics. the kid with headphones, the suicidal kid - nothing. can hardly get acknowledgement that the stories were posted here.

Of course it's true. Look at the page counts in P&R. The only reason the black community and crime stats get brought in to the mix, is because some people here are saying the guy was shot only because of his race. When it's brought up that black folks have way more interaction with the cops due to them committing double even triple the crime in relation to their percentage of the population, it's somehow unfair.

You can't have it both ways. Claim on one hand that the police are singling out black folks, and then on the other hand cry racism when someone points out factually that black people are responsible for such a large percentage of the crimes in this country.

I suspect he was trying to speak your language. I hope you didn't have to Google half the words in his post.

i'm not saying that. who's saying that?

i'm not asking for it either way you've put it..profiling creates a pretty much permanent class of second class citizens.

Perhaps where the math works out differently is in what happens before the police show up.

If you are white and walking around Walmart with a rifle in an open carry state, you are a patriotic American defending your God given 2nd amendmend right to bear arms. Nobody calls 911. No police show up.

If you're black, obviously it's a 211 in progress.

I would not disagree with all of this though not quite how you worded it..That was not what was being argued nor what I was responding to. If the response to every outlandish statement when shown to be outlandish is to defend it by jumping back two steps and declaring "but there is racism!" what is the point of having any conversation on the subject?

Whenever anyone has to answer a specific point that challenges something they previously there is a tendency to raise their nose and give the holier-than-thou attitude and start arguing "Racism is Bad.. Mkay!?" as if that was the argument. Bouilla base! Its weak...

Don't you hate it when people always bring that up? I mean besides the 8-10 times you did in the last week or so.. But other than THAT...

or when they post every negative incident a black person encounters in America day in day out and blame it on racism

Considering that until 50 years ago blacks were not part of the social fabric of America, the crime rate should be seen as an indictment and a reminder on the injustices that helped build our society as a whole, rather than a feeble means to attempt to justify these injustices.

Do you think that 50 years is enough time to overcome the injustices of the previous 150?

I'm talking about in real terms - equivalence in economics, educational outcomes (i.e. the general measures by which success is measured...)

I think I get it. So we should cut some slack to people that commit crimes today, because of what happened before they were even born? IMO that encourages more people to commit crime.
