And so? Isn't it reasonable that officers shoot more people, some fatally, than the average citizen, in the daily undertaking of their duty to protect citizens? The 2010 case was ruled self defense. We will have to see if this case comes out the same way.

Nothing I have read says anything about whether or not Crawford threatened the cops or pointed the gun at them... that would be good info to have. But if a cop says to drop a gun, and you don't, what comes next, logically?

It will be interesting to see what the Wal Mart security footage shows...

i thought you were upset that walmart was selling air rifles that could be so easily confused with actual guns.

and i don't know why you're citing the owner's manual - it's not like the guy ever got to actually purchase the thing.

i don't own a gun. i've never bought bullets.

i have bought two air rifles for xmas presents from walmart. they were secured to the aisle and someone had to unlock them and hand them to me. but that was a security thing.

I think the procedures are different for air rifles. They are just on a shelf, typically bound by a cable lock that prevents one from opening the box. Not sure how this rifle is packaged; sounds like it must be such that it wasn't enclosed in a box secured with cables, though.

No, that is not the issue at hand here.

I did it because even though I have never purchased one of those, I am smart enough to know what would be in the manual (the warning about it not being a toy). Because said warning was even put on Daisy's Red Rider BB guns when I was a kid.

This happened with air rifles .. receive a box and walked out of the store. Perhaps the man looked at the gun and clerk was busy with another customer. He then decided to walk away with the gun.

Once again we have people looking at pictures and describing him based on that - How can you complain about people judging others as ganbangers based on a pic when you are going to judge him innocent because he is holding a baby?? Speaking of which the pictures of him holding a baby in other articles describe him as a devoted family man with two children.. Another article from the mother of the two children crying saying how much they loved each other and that she just found out she was pregnant with his third child but had not told him yet.. And then in the shooting he is with another woman described as a long time girlfriend.

If you are going to proclaim him a victim because he poses with a baby then you can't ###### when other people start looking into his life - you have opened the door.

..and a life lesson: If you are holding a gun and a cop points a gun at you and tells you to put it down, PUT IT DOWN. Does anyone with an IQ over 2 believe that someone would (or should) should just take the word of "its not a real gun!" - Don't be stupid, put that ####### down!

A person made a very stupid decision. Race baiter's are trying to make a race issue out of it. A white person acting the same way would be dead also. ... Put the gun down .. Would be treated the same way

Well, you are the OP, so I can't speak for your original intent.

But from my perspective, it is not about the types of guns Wal Mart sells, nor about whether or not they should sell air rifles that look like real guns. That is a manufacturer's issue. The issue here is why did a guy get shot who wasn't breaking any law? If he hadn't purchased the gun yet, it should have been in a box. If he brought it into the store, then he was following Ohio law, right up the point he didn't put down when the officer told him to. Even if he didn't put it down, assuming he did not point it in an unsafe direction, I don't see why a cop would shoot.

Leads me to believe there may be more to the story that we don't know yet. For sure, the folks who called 911 said he had been pointing the gun at kids in the store. NOT very responsible behaviour by anyone's measure.
