I think I get it. So we should cut some slack to people that commit crimes today, because of what happened before they were even born? IMO that encourages more people to commit crime.

No. Clearly you don't.

Do you think that 50 years is enough time to overcome the injustices of the previous 150?

I'm talking about in real terms - equivalence in economics, educational outcomes (i.e. the general measures by which success is measured...)

No and several here, who pay attention can tell you I have said as much. However the gates to the playing field have been swung open. Is everything perfect. No. However to keep fanning the flames of racism and promoting the myth of the hobbled black only, ensures that generation after generation of young black men, will fall prey to endless maze of poverty and misery. When the President and the vast majority of black leaders, keep telling young black men, that somehow Michael Brown is now a hero, and his death is a result of racism, is a disservice to all young black men, and only reenforces the self fulfilling prophecy.

The lesson that should be taught is, you have opportunities available to you, don't throw them away with a life of crime and drugs, because it will not end good.

Good points, but it's much easier to sit back and play the victim card. Work all those injustices that happened decades and centuries ago for your own benefit.

If that's the opinion you hold why are you trying to deny that the disproportionate incarceration of blacks has anything to do with the legacy of the past? It's a legitimate issue.

You know what I think? As much as people use racism as an excuse for their own failures, others deny it as a way of airing their prejudices in public.

You can laugh about it as much as you want. Uncomfortable as it may make you, social injustice is an issue that needs to be talked about - not downplayed for your own purposes.

It's easy to make glib remarks if you haven't been on the receiving end.

So when did I say that ?

Your response to this post:

Considering that until 50 years ago blacks were not part of the social fabric of America, the crime rate should be seen as an indictment and a reminder on the injustices that helped build our society as a whole, rather than a feeble means to attempt to justify these injustices.

...was this:

News Flash .. It ain't 50 years ago

...to which my response was:

Correct. A lot has changed in 50 years. However I have never maintained that the atrocties of the past don't have "ANY" bearing on today's issues, only that that is not the only issue that is in play.

Thanks for clearing that up. However, it wasn't apparent from your response to the post in question, hence mine. I may be many things but I can't claim to be a psychic.

Because as val pointed out, there's no discussion about the white community. There's no "well whites commit crime". There's no comments like, he had it coming, or he had a felony so he must have done something.

"White community"??? ####### is THAT??

Hey Marvin... whites commit crime. There. Did you REALLY need to read that herr to know it's true? I truly hope not. Also... Asians commit crime. And Hispanics. Guess what?? HUMANS commit crime. And you're a human. Get over your black self man. That shite ain't gonna fly in the civilian world. They don't have the same protection as you have enjoyed in the military all these years.
