All I did was address your claim about the numbers. You said because we commit crimes that aren't proportionate to our population, it's the reason this happens.

You say I roll in here and say this. What's the first response from anyone else? It's because of the crime rate. I don't deserve to be profiled because someone else did the crime. No one doing the right thing should pay the price because of some rotten apples.

You must admit you're omitting the vast majority of your posts claiming racial injustice whenever a young black man is shot. I'd say that's the vast majority of your posts.

Just the same as you guys are the spokesperson for guns, until a spree goes down. Then it's everything else BUT the gun.

No killing is ever about the gun to me.

My problem is when you roll in here saying that every time something happens to a black person, it's because of racism. Or that blacks are singled out for whatever reason when it comes to crime. I merely point out that the reputation is well deserved based on the numbers coming out of the FBI office. Don't like that? Maybe start looking within the community itself for changes, rather than blaming everything on the racist boogeyman.

No thanks. You can find them all on your own I'm sure, based on your previous posts here.

I said this in another thread but should probably be pointed out again, just for $hits and giggles.

There is such a thing as racism against black people - but I would argue that it's manifested in people's attitudes towards blacks as it pertains to things like crime statistics and racial profiling and how the justice system seems to hand out more severe sentences to black defendants compared with whites committing the same crimes.

There is also a more subtle form of prejudice which arises out of the prevailing socio-economic conditions. Many blacks (especially those from the South) didn't become upwardly mobile until the 1960s (i.e. not that long ago). This means that there are a lot of middle class blacks with poor relatives, relatives in prison (because poverty is tied to crime). People tend to overlook the reasons for the economic inequality in favour of the view that the position and outlook of those living under such conditions is deserved. These people can't understand the rationale behind so-called affirmative action initiatives. The philosophy of AA is to give people living in difficult circumstances a leg-up.

You say look within the community, but I would argue that the problem in this thread is a failure of people to look outside their own frame of reference.

Well I've addresses the disparity of sentencing in other threads. I see it as a mostly economic issue. You probably missed that part. I've lived in and out of the black community growing up. That doesn't make me any kind of expert.

I do know this though. People of all races will take advantage of playing the victim card to use it to their advantage. I think that's exactly what's going on the Ferguson case, and what went on in the Sanford, Florida case. I also know that cases like that are going to make things worse, not better when it comes to race relations. Both of those cases are being used by unscrupulous people to gin up racial tensions for their own benefit. The media is only to happy to help them out.

I've posted tons of things when a black person is shot, and how there's a difference in how they're treated. You say we want to be treated differently, I say it's equal treatment.

Nothing equal about it really. When a white guy is shot by the cops, no one ever hears about it. It definitely doesn't turn into a 100 page thread here. But when a black guy is shot by the cops (Even in this Ferguson case where it appears justified) there's 24/7 news coverage and 100 page threads. Not sure what else you could possibly want. It gives you an open forum and people to play ball with you when it comes to your claims of widespread racial injustices. Again, at some point the black community needs to take ownership for some of it's own failures. Some refuse to do that and blame everything on racism. The U.S.news media is more than happy to help them get that flawed message out.

not true. and the only reason why the other articles don't turn into 100 page threads is because when a black person is killed by a cop we have to talk about the 'black community' and crime statistics. the kid with headphones, the suicidal kid - nothing. can hardly get acknowledgement that the stories were posted here.

Because as val pointed out, there's no discussion about the white community. There's no "well whites commit crime". There's no comments like, he had it coming, or he had a felony so he must have done something.

Now here's the joke. You guys can't stand Al or Jesse, yet when a white kid gets killed, you want them to speak out for you?

Police brutality is a problem, but only when it's someone you can relate to.

I was in that thread. Where were the usual suspects that lurk in here?

If I remember correctly, we were talking about the double standard for criminal records.
