I actually think it's a fallacy to suggest that there's a single, unified 'black community'.

There's no single unified community of any race that I'm aware of. However, there seems to be plenty of folks stepping up claiming they represent the black community. Al, Jesse et al.

Nice deflection anyway.

Wait a sec. Seems the black community leaders do the same thing when it comes to claiming victimhood. "We're getting a raw deal because we're black" But if someone points out numbers that paint the black community in a bad light, that's somehow racist? Seems like a double standard to me.

A simple question. When does anything about the black community come out that's not a bad light? The very same folks who talk about the crime number are the same ones that have nothing to say when it's something positive.

It seems to be the mantra that the crime rate seems to be the ONLY reason black people are targeted. So, let's see. Not only do you have to not do anything wrong in your lifetime, but since blacks(we are all alike) commit crime disproportionate to our numbers, I have to be punished for it. Anytime I'm profiled or a victim of police brutality, it's because someone who shares my skin color made it this way.

First, it was do your best to succeed. Then, it's you have to be twice as good to get half as far. Now, it's all that PLUS eradicate all issues within the black community yourself in order to escape being treated poorly. No problem. I'll have all that done before the 4-day weekend. No high expectations there.

It's not that difficult to understand - the terms of reference people use to discuss race reflect their own biases on the issue.

I didn't grow up in the USA, and I'm not black. Hence I can't relate to the experience of being a black person in the USA. I haven't experienced poverty in a single generation, let alone across several generations and I haven't experienced institutionalised racial prejudice. Hence, my frame of reference on the issue is limited. That's just being honest.

However.

I lived in a predominantly poor, black neighbourhood in New Jersey for four years.

I also worked with a number of middle class blacks when I worked in publishing in NYC.

I think I know enough about the issue of race politics to know that feeding perceived prejudice with prejudice is the wrong way to go.

Hey there's nothing I can do about that massive chip you're carrying around. That's your problem. I've posted stories here about black folks doing well.

My problem is when you roll in here saying that every time something happens to a black person, it's because of racism. Or that blacks are singled out for whatever reason when it comes to crime. I merely point out that the reputation is well deserved based on the numbers coming out of the FBI office. Don't like that? Maybe start looking within the community itself for changes, rather than blaming everything on the racist boogeyman.

thanks. hold my hand and give me some more names.

No thanks. You can find them all on your own I'm sure, based on your previous posts here.

Marvin is only a spokesmodel for the black community, when he is outraged and perceives an injustice. When you whittle it down to a fact, he is all of a sudden responsible only for him, and wants to know why you associate him with criminals.

All I did was address your claim about the numbers. You said because we commit crimes that aren't proportionate to our population, it's the reason this happens.

You say I roll in here and say this. What's the first response from anyone else? It's because of the crime rate. I don't deserve to be profiled because someone else did the crime. No one doing the right thing should pay the price because of some rotten apples.

What for?

Just off the top of my head I posted something about a 60 minutes story where corporations we're training mostly minorities for positions within their firms. Also, something about a young black girl pitcher playing baseball in a male little league and doing well. There's more, but they hardly get any comments because they're not examples of the white man doing the black man wrong.

Just the same as you guys are the spokesperson for guns, until a spree goes down. Then it's everything else BUT the gun.
