My previous past relationships all ended on positive notes with us going our separate ways as friends. If I threw away all of the photos and momentoes from those many years I would be throwing away much of my life. Regardless of what happened, those relationships were part of the process that shaped me into the woman I am today. I don't need to throw them out or to hang on to them - they are non-issues - they just are there along with the rest of the momentoes of my past life and experiences. My husband has also had his past relationships along with two marriages. They have made him the man he is, the man I love. I would no longer ask him to throw away anything he felt he wanted to keep than I would think it was any of my business to ask. Again, it isn't a matter of sighing and lamenting over what was and isn't, rather 'that was then and this is now'. We were both different people in the past and neither of us feel threatened by that.

Well said, Kathryn. I couldn't agree more.

It is when an imperfect couple learns to enjoy their differences.

I'm glad alot of you aren't troubled by past pictures of your Fiancee/Wife with someone else :) More Power to ya  But it would bother me..and So I'll just put the pic's away that include my ex in pic's with the kids.. and other stuff I'll either give it back to the ex or throw it away.. My thoughts are about how Veronica Would feel.. not about how I would feel throwing out a past that didn't work.. I really don't need reminders of where I've been.. to know where I'm going..

Oh hell yeah I'm keepin the jewelry. I was just going through a box of old ####### and found prom/homecoming photos from highschool. Those can go.

I don't have a lot of photos, so that's not an issue.

I'm not the sentimental letter writing type, so that's not an issue, either.

I'm keeping the jewelry. ;)

Ive kept some of the jewerly from my ex, the ones i gave away i never liked anyway  I do still have photos of my wedding, my husband has no problem with them. He knows that was part of my life before i knew him. Plus is it full of photos of my parents who are now deceased and i would never dream of throwing them away.

Oh this is a sore spot in our relationship. I never had any pictures or things of my past relationships out and lying around, or even at my house. But when we went to my dad's home (my childhood home) my husband dug around my room looking at all my things. I now live far away from my dad and don't often visit so obviously I didn't have time to put things away (not that there were TONS of things anyway). There were some things I was holding onto just because they reminded me of good times I had with one particular boyfriend who really was like my best friend. So getting rid of things was like throwing out memories from friends. Also my husband doesn't understand the concept of male friends, of which I had quite a few while in high school. He assumed any picture with a guy was one with a boyfriend. After arguing and trying to get him to understand I finally got so ticked off I tore up all the letters, e-mails, trinkets and pictures that were there and threw them in his face. Looking back it probably wasn't the best way to handle things but he refused to understand or even try to understand how male/female dynamics are different here. I do have a scrapbook I made of pictures from a trip I took to Germany, Austria and the Czech Republic with an ex-boyfriend. Even though there are pictures of that ex in the book I told my husband I was not going to destroy those pictures, not because I still care about the man but because I don't want to lose the pictures from that trip. I don't know if I'll ever get the chance to go again and I'd love to show my kids that part of the world someday even if it's only through my pictures.

This is a really good question, i've enjoyed reading how others dealt with this issue.

As I went through the house, cleaning and organizing, we came across a lot of her stuff that she left behind when she took off with her lover. The personal stuff (like stuff from her childhood, pictures of her family, etc) we boxed up. The stuff that was generated during their marriage was pretty much thrown in the trash can. We called her up, left a message and said if you want your childhood stuff you have two weeks to pick it up, or it's going to the dump. It was picked up a week later.

I didn't care if Jerry wanted to keep it or not. Seeing as the relationship did NOT end well, I had to restrain him from destroying more than what we did. LOL

In general, women are very material and greedy, that is why men in this country suffer so much. If you want to keep holding onto past s#it you got from him, why dont you go back to him?shishhh

Guys, we need to start leaving these women who cant get over their past and get fresh ones with limited 'baggage'. That is the conclusion from seeing how women value material things over their love lives or the feelings of those they now claim to love(mostly for financial or other one sided selfish reasons).

Am sick of American women!!!!!!

thanks. :) Technically she left them behind....and probably wouldn't have come to get them unless we had called her. I just didn't want to dump them without her having one last chance, so she wouldn't have any regrets later on.
