Gave jewelry back.

There were no memory invoking pieces of paper other than photos.

All the pictures I still have of the ex are of him involved in fatherly stuff and they're around for the kids.

If you do not, and even if your spouse makes you think it is OK like the guy who said the wife labelled a file "Matt's girls",

Oh she definetely didnt think it was OK. She was furious. I deleted the whole folder once i saw it, because i feel indifferent towards them, i have no sentiment towards them, and frankly i didnt even remember having them saved on my computer.

Ill agree its important to get rid of everything, solely because your fiance/e may see this as you still harboring emotions towards that person. But in my situation, when i saw the pics, i just remembered the reasons that the relationship with that person didnt work out. But if you are throwing things out cuz you hate your ex, well then thats a different story because it shows you still care about them.

My last relationship endet more than four years ago, but we seperated as friends and there were no bitter feelings involved.

That's why I never needed the big cleanout to feel better. It just seems like the things linked to the relationship slowly vanished... Everytime I moved, I left more stuff behind.

Plus, I'm not a person to keep stuff I don't need- so one after one, the stuffed animals, pictures and gifts disappeared.

I do have a couple of pictures somewhere on a cd and one ring he gave me (just a plain silver band)- and I will keep them because I don't see the point in throwing them out.

My husband and I were friends for 2 years before we started dating and he knows my ex-boyfriend and I know his exgirlfriend- not very well, but we've met.

I know he still has a couple of pictures on a harddrive and a book she gave to him- but I don't mind or care.

It's all part of our past and it all helped us become the way we are today.

short history:

2001 - met in Germany

April 2003 - fell in love

Aug 2004 - go to the US for internship

Feb 2005 - both return to Germany

Aug 2006 - getting married

DCF timeline:

09/01/2006 - filed the petition in Frankfurt

09/06/2006 - medical in Frankfurt

09/26/2006 - faxed checklist

10/05/2006 - received interview invite

11/01/2006 - INTERVIEW in Frankfurt - approved!

11/04/2006 - VISA IN HAND!!

I actually got rid of every single photo, memory, gifts, clothing, everything. I don't think I would ever keep anything from a past relatiobship, I don't see the reason why I would want to.

keep them for target practice? :P

My fiance was with his ex for 21 years. I think it'd be asinine for me to expect him to desimate ALL evidence of her existance. I'm not even sure it'd be possible to do that. I'm not threatened by her, so I guess its just not a huge priority to me. Now if he moved here and wanted to hang a picture of her or something  - that I would not like. But he wouldn't want to do that anyway.

I still have photos from my first wedding (although they are buried in the back of a closet). I guess I've kept them there in case I ever want to look at them. At this point, I can't forsee me wanting to do that - but I want to give myself the option if I ever changed my mind.

Our ex spouses were a part of our lives, and in a way, made us who we are today. Destroying all evidence of them doesn't make that fact go away.

But obviously this puts me in the minority. *shrug*

When I went over to stay with Tim for a long haul the first time, there were many photos on his pc of his ex. It didn't bother me as much as it did him, and he told me to delete them all. I instead put them all on a disc and sent them to her for the children. I did keep a couple with her in them because they had his mum in them as well who is no longer with us.

My ex never gave me anything of great importance or value so that stuff was long gone. Our wedding photos are still in the home we shared that he now lives in, for the boys to have when they grow up. It would be a bit immature to toss the photos out, after all it was part of my life & my ex husbands life which resulted in our children. I feel they have the right to make the choice if they want those photos when they are older.

There has never been any envy or jealousy in our relationship when it comes to the past. The past has nothing to do with our life together. Besides the past is what moulds us, so why hide it?

I had nothing, once a relationship is over i destroy or get rid of everything anyway (except my daughter duh) bc i wish to move on and not dwell (did that for 3 yrs on my ex ) since my ex i try to move on fast, and i just get rid of it all. my husband didnt have to worry about coming across anything when he got here. my husband on the other hand had 1 relationship his whole life with who didnt last long bc his life was mountain climbing, so i wasnt worried about pics or anything like that.

I honestly don't know what I will do. My past relationship was the father of my children and I can't really throw pictures of him out since it's their dad. Maybe I'll have them keep them in their closet or something since it's really for them. Good question.

I have the same situation. I put them all in a box including our wedding photos and its on a top shelf in my closet. I am saving them for my daughters to have when they are grown.

You know, I've found that I've actually really regretting throwing things away/deleting old chats and emails. I never had any serious relationships in my past, just little things, and I've pretty much deleted all electronic records but now I wish I could look back at them and laugh about stuff and just remember everything because I've kind of forgotten a lot of it! :P
