Drunk driving deaths

Yeah it is kinda silly to argue for more gun control, when they don't prosecute anyone for trying to buy guns that shouldn't be.

Exactly. Making more laws to make it illegal to own an illegal gun won't do much if they aren't enforced. Just like immigration laws, start by enforcing the laws already on the books.

I think you're supposed to post comedy in the OT forum.

Well the Kenyan probably thinks that would happen.

Sure that would be great if we were just beginning to consider whether or not to allow the public to own firearms. What about the existing 330 million guns without chips?

Those guns will more than likely be out there forever. Does that mean it's fruitless to do anything now?

So we're on the same page that comparing deaths from drunk driving and guns is completely stupid?

Yes it does seem to be an apples and oranges comparison. There is no right to own a car or drive. IMO, the argument ends there.

No comment on the link I posted?

That guns are built for competition? Sure, fine. Like Karee said, primary purpose and the entire point of creation of a gun is to be used as a weapon. Which is fine, but makes it inherently different from a car.

My position is that if you loose a gun permit over a drunk driving arrest because the logic of the judge says you are too irresponsible to own a firearm. (that is a lifetime ban in this case)... Then the same standards should apply to a person picked up for DWI... Lifetime ban for driving..... to irresponsible to have a drivers license ... Of course because it could apply to you (at some time in your life.. that is too harsh.... Was the judge too harsh in pulling the CC permit for a DUI.

This is what I took out of the OP, and I think it is a valid discussion, though some here seem to think otherwise. I don't have a problem with someone losing a CC permit for having a DUI. For life? Maybe not. Let's set a more reasonable time limit, say 5 years with no further arrests for same event.

But the example I posted earlier, a lifetime ban because a person does time for any crime unrelated to alcohol or firearms (statutory rape is the example I used)... I think that is too harsh.

I think a lifetime ban for one DUI is a tad too harsh. But repeat offenders? Absolutely. They shouldn't be driving.

Which technically qualifies it as a "bait thread"

I got wasted in Ft. Hood for the first time when I was 22, for the same reason you did. But since my family had so many issues with drugs and alcohol, I abstain from both religiously.

Cocaine is the rich man's drug. Where I grew up it was either crack or weed. I've never tried either so I can't speak on it, but I've seen what crack does to someone, so I'd never even consider using it.

As Chris Rock said, people want to get high. Even if you got rid of all the drugs and alcohol, folks will be in their basements with some gasoline and lima beans mixed together getting tore up.

I think calling a car a murder weapon is a bit much. It's one purpose is to provide transportation. It can be used to kill someone, but so can anything else. A gun's sole purpose is to tear apart whatever is sitting in front of the barrel. There is a difference.

My drinking is rare now days, cause it just hurts too bad the next day. I don't usually have a beer, becuse what's the point in having one ? Not to mention I am the driver in our relationship. You could not pay me enough to drink and drive. So maybe one or twice a year I will have a modest amount to drink

What about alcohol? Isn't it's primary purpose to dull ones senses and artificially alter the state of mind for supposedly pleasurable purposes? Then due to this state of intoxication, people do stupid things? Like drive. So the actual problem is the alcohol, not the car.

But cars sever a purpose. They are needed. Society has to have them. My argument was Alcohol v guns. Some argue guns serve no purpose other than to kill, and I a argue alcohol serves no legitimate need in society .

Without alcohol, less people would be getting laid.

Other than that alcohol serves no purpose. I looked back on my 25 years of drinking and tried to find ONE serious positive thing that came out of it. That was a couple years ago and I still haven't come up with anything. Since then, whenever I think about going out for some beers, I think about that. What's the upside? There isn't one that I can think of, and no one has been able to give me a good one. I don't mean some B.S. about "it relaxes me after work" or waking up with some skank you would've never shagged if you were sober.

And as a result, there would be less unwanted births, less welfare recipients, less welfare abuse and a general reduction in population, All in all, a win win situation. It's unanimous, ban alcohol. Of course the CABA chicks will fight this since that is the only way they can get laid.
