What about target shooting, skeet shooting, trap shooting, competitive shooting? Shooting is even an Olympic event. So I call bs on the only thing a gun is built for is killing. I know people that have shot competitively for decades and have never killed anything.

A gun's PRIMARY purpose is to kill. Whether it be animals or other people. Sure people use them for hunting sport shooting etc. But that's not their primary function.

The opposite is true when talking about cars. Their primary purpose is for transportation, but secondary to that people do end up dead from driving.

Do they build guns specifically designed for this type of activity? If so, what % of guns in circulation is this?

Of course they do. Most criminals don't use a Krieghoff competition shotgun. Do they keep statistics on each type of gun in circulation and what they are used for? I have never seen a breakdown like that.

Check it out. These are works of art. And expensive.

To add to the above. The whole gun argument is irrelevant until there's some serious debate about amending the constitution. Until then, it's just noise.

Always is. I know people don't actually care about drunk driving deaths or motor vehicle deaths. They simply like to compare them to other kinds of violence even when there's no comparison at all. Logic never wins.

My position is that if you loose a gun permit over a drunk driving arrest because the logic of the judge says you are too irresponsible to own a firearm. (that is a lifetime ban in this case)... Then the same standards should apply to a person picked up for DWI... Lifetime ban for driving..... to irresponsible to have a drivers license ... Of course because it could apply to you (at some time in your life.. that is too harsh.... Was the judge too harsh in pulling the CC permit for a DUI.

Florida currently has more concealed-carry permit holders than any other state, with 1,269,021 issued as of May 14, 2014

The liberal elite ... know that the people simply cannot be trusted; that they are incapable of just and fair self-government; that left to their own devices, their society will be racist, sexist, homophobic, and inequitable -- and the liberal elite know how to fix things. They are going to help us live the good and just life, even if they have to lie to us and force us to do it. And they detest those who stand in their way."

You're argument makes complete sense actually.

I think there can be substantial changes made such as a nationwide gun law rather than state to state and mental health checks for gun owners. I'd also like to see all new guns manufactured with some type of a smart chip in them to where the gun will only fire if it's being held by it's legal owner.

Yep, until the Constitution is changed, it's nothing but talk. If people want to restrict gun sales, the first thing they should be fighting for is the enforcement of the current laws. Then they need to elect officials that will take a stand on guns and fight to amend the Constitution. I wonder who will be the first politician to stand up and declare this publicly? Who will have the balls to come out and say it instead of dodging the issue? IMO, it will take several decades to even get close to amending the law of the land.

Sure that would be great if we were just beginning to consider whether or not to allow the public to own firearms. What about the existing 330 million guns without chips?

I know someone that lost their license for drunk driving a few times. He said that he thinks the penalty for first time offenders should be much more harsh. If he had lost his license for 5 years the first time instead of 90 days, it would have really hit home.

Yeah it is kinda silly to argue for more gun control, when they don't prosecute anyone for trying to buy guns that shouldn't be.

Maybe they'll magically disappear? Or maybe everyone will turn them in to get one of the new guns?

I think you're supposed to post comedy in the OT forum.
