plus waiting for the checklist will add a few months on our journey since NVC is backlogged to the max

at minimum she will need the checklist from NVC or visa application instructions that state a police certificate is required in order for the singapore police force to process her request. you should not apply for a police certificate too early in the process as it might be expired by the time the interview comes around.

if OP's fiancee applies in person, as he is suggesting, it takes 3 weeks, or 15 business days, to receive the COC. no more, no less. the only reason it can take months is due to mail delays.

OK...it's just that others have posted nightmarish scenarios...but...it all depends...of course, we aren't privy to all of the details. Hoping the best!

*shrugs* any process, in any country, for any type of application is bound to leave some people feeling frustrated - maybe they don't have the right documents, maybe their mail got lost by the postal carrier they used, anything *could* go wrong, but it doesn't mean it will. it's counter-productive to worry about the COC possibly taking months for the OP (especially since his fiancee intends to apply in person) because:

1. the OP needs certain documents to apply for the COC, which he doesn't have at this stage; and

2. even if he applied for it now, his fiancee's visa interview might be months away, especially since interview slots are so hard to come by at USEM at this point, by which time the COC might have expired. imagine having to pay for his fiancee to return to singapore again, reapply, and resubmit documents to the embassy.

OP - as mentioned earlier, the time frame for receiving the COC if you apply in person is much quicker - 15 business days (for non-citizens) including the day you apply and the day you can pick up the COC. applications can only be done before 12 noon, pick up is more flexible, before 5pm I believe.

All of which is fine.

Went through it with Hong Kong...they're a bit easier to deal with. Can do it via email...except for the payment...best to have a friend there...anyway...

Could be weeks...could be months...USEM is getting better...we had a terrible time getting an appt...but, things have loosened up a bit since the "expedites" have stopped. Much easier to get appt - if "K" visa type. Things are slowed now at NVC...but, once things get to USEM...it should move along.

So...I don't believe that the COC would expire before the interview...I think that that is taking a very dim view/somewhat negative...

Well they're at the NVC stage now...so, sure, it can take time...why are you being so contentious? Not necessary, really!

you said: "So...I don't believe that the COC would expire before the interview...I think that that is taking a very dim view/somewhat negative.."

it is not a dim/negative view because NVC takes *much* longer for spousal visa cases as opposed to fiance visa cases. COCs do expire, and there is a chance it could expire if there are delays at the NVC stage. i wouldn't advise that the OP takes that chance.

if there is incorrect information that is being posted, someone will eventually come along to correct it - that does not mean it is contentious.

After you pay your IV fees does NVC send you an email requesting what you need to send back to them

since that is more of an NVC question as opposed to a police certificate question, you might want to check out:
