Green Card in the mail???

My wife's AOS was approved and we received the standard emails from USCIS; Welcome letter sent, ordered production of GC, etc.....

So we are eagerly awaiting arrival of her GC, and checking the mailbox everyday. I check the mail again today and it's a letter a letter from USCIS. Of course it's not labeled as such, but I reach into the mailbox and can feel the card inside, and hold it up to the light and see the USCIS name and logo thru the envelope. I'm so exicted it has finally arrived!!! I flip it over to look at the name, expecting it to be my wife, and I can't believe what I see. The letter is addressed to someone with a name similar to my wife's maiden name, with an address in Savannah Georgia. #######!!!! How did a letter for an entirely different person (also awaiting a GC), with an address in Georgia, make it all the way to my home in Los Angeles??? I mean, it doesn't make any sense that the letter made it all the way to our home, and coincidentally, my wife is also waiting for her GC. I almost decided to open the letter in hope of the card inside actually having my wife's name on it. Of course, that would be a crime.....

I wonder if that person in Savannah Georgia received my wife's GC, too???

That really suck and I can imagine your disappointment.

What I would do if I were you is actually try calling the person to whom the letter was addressed and indicate to them that you have received a letter intended for them and check if they received yours. tell them that you would be mailing it to them (and please do so) and ask them to be kind enough to call you (give them your number) and mail you your grenncard if they received it or do receive it in the future.

This is shocking! USCIS should be informed immediately of this error and hope they do something about it and that it won't happen again

I'm confused. Were you able to at least see the name of the person on the green card? Maybe it is your wife's? I dunno....I'd have that sucker over a pot of steam if it were me.

Wow that is crazy. I would try to look up the person it was supposed to go to and give them a call. If it is their’s then send it to them. It is illegal to open it but maybe you could make an info pass and go open it in front of them?

I've accidentally opened mis-delivered mail that looked like something I would get.... Nothing happened, it was an honest mistake.

Maybe technically it is a crime. However, I know what I would have done. Where is the harm or foul?
