what difference indeed.......

-In 1978, he sued the ADL; however, a New York State Supreme Court judge ruled that it was "fair comment" to describe LaRouche as an anti-Semite.

-LaRouche has given speeches and written articles in opposition to gay rights that his critics consider homophobic

-In October 1986, the FBI and Virginia state authorities raided the LaRouche headquarters in Leesburg in search of evidence to support the persistent accusations of fraud and extortion. LaRouche and six associates were charged with conspiracy and mail fraud related to fundraising. LaRouche was also charged with conspiring to hide his personal income since 1979, the last year he had filed a federal tax return. In December 1988, a federal jury in Alexandria, Virginia convicted LaRouche and his associates, and LaRouche was sentenced to fifteen years in prison.

-A significant change in the LaRouche organization since LaRouche was released from prison has been the development of the LaRouche Youth Movement (LYM) beginning in 1999. (sieg heil, anyone?)

and the list goes on and on......enjoy listening to that fruitcake.

Okay, so the guy should be called 'LaDouche'. FWIW, I don't listen to him. In fact, I've never even heard of him. Does that change WalMart's well documented business practices? Nope.

It's bad for the Ma and Pa stores not because Walmart "ran them out of business" but because the day of small stores is over. Do you think that if all the walmarts in the world closed their doors Ma and Pa stores would start popping up like mushrooms? No, there are plenty of other mega stores that would rise up to take their place. Times change and so does the way commerce is done. I am old enough to remember before there were any "mega stores". Before the mega stores started showing up I remember that malls were going to be the death of "hometown downtown".There was the same outcry when the mall went up in Alton. Then I remember a store named Bellscott opened. It put a real damper on the malls. Then a store named Venture opened and Bellscott went down. The Kmart opened and Venture closed. Then Walmart opened and Kmart went downhill. The Ma and Pa store was long gone by the time Walmart came around.

Like it or not money talks. Walmart has a lot of money so it gets its way. That is the prize for becoming the biggest. Thats the way of the world and to think you can change that means you are living in a Utopian dream world.

This would be a prediction that turned out to be fairly accurate, no? Most downtowns are dead.

Apples and Oranges, anyone?

I don't know about you but I find the desolate condition of many a downtown area across the country much more disturbing than the lack of horses on our roadways. Maybe it's a European thing to value a thriving and beautiful inner city...

I don't find it apples and oranges at all....it's a very basic comparison to illustrate the evolution of business.

And as to the rest of your post....Wal-Mart is a thriving part of the cities they are in. If they didn't thrive, they wouldn't survive.

what i find disturbing in this thread is the rabid animosity some have towards wal-mart in particular and other major corporations in general. perhaps they'd prefer a return to the 50's where every neighborhood had its own store with the higher prices and limited selection.

Or move to a third world country where there are no huge corporations to cramp their lives.

1) I wasn't speaking of Wal-Mart but of what Malls have done to inner city businesses.

2) What inner city is Wal-Mart thriving in, precisely?
