I have been in a Ross and it gave me the creeps... I would rather shop in Walmart any day... and nothing anyone can say will make me change my mind :P

I mainly buy shampoos, soap etc, drinks etc at Walmart.... misc. stuff....

Clothes shopping I do mainly at Susie's Deals... everything is 5 bucks

Ross gave you the creeps? Um, okay...

umm, you don't like shopping at Walmart... um...okay

No, I don't shop at WalMart and I've stated my reasons why. Several times. And provided examples to backup my reasons.

Exactly what is 'creepy' about Ross?

Robert, I think you're getting these reactions because people in general don't like being told that don't have a choice (even if it's implied). To those who keep arguing with Robert, please watch the 1st documentary I posted: Walmart: The High Cost of Low Price. You owe it to yourself and this country to better understand what people who are against Walmart's practices are talking about. Especially watch the part where a family hardware store is run out of town when a Walmart moved in. Seriously listen how this family built up the business with their own blood, sweat and tears and were successful for over 40 years. Find out what kinds of legal red tape the family had to go through to get a permit to build a bigger store in the early 90's and how Walmart was able to circumvent the very same zoning laws and requirements.

This isn't about Walmart. It's about what is happening to this country.

It's bad for the Ma and Pa stores not because Walmart "ran them out of business" but because the day of small stores is over. Do you think that if all the walmarts in the world closed their doors Ma and Pa stores would start popping up like mushrooms? No, there are plenty of other mega stores that would rise up to take their place. Times change and so does the way commerce is done. I am old enough to remember before there were any "mega stores". Before the mega stores started showing up I remember that malls were going to be the death of "hometown downtown".There was the same outcry when the mall went up in Alton. Then I remember a store named Bellscott opened. It put a real damper on the malls. Then a store named Venture opened and Bellscott went down. The Kmart opened and Venture closed. Then Walmart opened and Kmart went downhill. The Ma and Pa store was long gone by the time Walmart came around.

Like it or not money talks. Walmart has a lot of money so it gets its way. That is the prize for becoming the biggest. Thats the way of the world and to think you can change that means you are living in a Utopian dream world.

Yes, Walmart might take out small businesses but this kind of thing has been going on since the dawn of time... :P

Big business will take out small businesses... where is all the uproar about the other businesses that have done this??

Wow, now that is niave, destroying businesses on purpose? Yes, that's exactly what they want to do and do do. There business is in making money, not making people happy.

Yep and they make me and everyone else who shops there happy everytime.

and the only thing niave is thinking walmart is the satan destroyer of the universe out to destroy all hometown business's with its move into a town. if i had a business and it was as successful as walmart, yes id want to open up stores in as many places as i could. thats not being mean, thats doing business, its called keeping your business alive.

No one sees a problem with this? What happened to all the variety? Every store now sells exactly the same goods. Talk about lack of choice.

Big business is only concerned with making money, period. They have no interest in making consumers happy and consumers don't seem to care any more if their needs are met.

Does anyone remember when a shop bought tomato tasted of anything? Being able to afford lots of nothing is really not choice. However, I guess so long as someone is getting rich that's ok, right?

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

I do not single out Walmart above any other large store. What amazes me is that everyone is so contended with how things are. Really, it's astonishing. So, I can buy loads of cheap goods. More isn't necessarily better and cheap isn't necessarily good.

If walmart customers were not happy, walmart would have closed a long time ago. if walmart sucked even half as much as being told on here, walmart would have been closed a long time ago. think about it, no matter what is said neg about walmart, there are so many ppl who shop there that walmart will remain open and ppl will remain being happy to go there and continue to keep the company in business.

Are you serious? No choice? We have more choice now than we ever did! I don't know what you mean by the tomato thing. The produce there is first rate. I grew up on a farm and for the first 18 years of my life every veggy I ate came fresh from a garden. All beef pork and chicken came from our own farm. The stuff you by at Walmart or any other big chain store is as good or better than what I grew up on. I just don't get what your problem is with your choice today. It's better than it has ever been. I think you are nostalgic for something you think used to be when in reality you have it much better now.

Watch the video, Gary, before you make up your mind about that. That family's hardware store thrived for 40 years and they even built a bigger place (it was huge) in the early 90's. BTW, the owners of the hardware store are lifetime Republicans (not that it matters except if when you think this is just a liberal issue). I always thought the Republican Party supported the small businessman. Now you sound very nonchalant about them...hmmm.

Vegetables from a home grown plot did and always will taste better than anything you can buy in a shop and of course, will be better for you, nutritionally.

First rate produce? If you mean by that there is little spoilage, sure, that's true. How does that happen? Erm, iradiation, picking unripe fruit...the list is endless.

There is far less choice. There are only one or two varietes of potato, tomato, apple, orange etc grown commercially and they are chosen for? Not taste, they are chosen because they have long shelf life or because they have good colour and few blemishes. ####### is that about? It's about profit, not good health or consumer satisfaction, but profit. So, because most food produced is bland what is done with it to make it acceptable? Added value! Add salt, suger and fat and what do we have, something the modern consumer can't do without.

Nostalgic for a bygone age? Not in the way you think, but I do care enough about my family's health to want the best for them, and that does not include filling them large quantities of mass produced garbage.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I am now and have always been a free market believer. Survival of the fittest. The business that does the best job in attracting and holding customers wins. Supporting small business has nothing to do with protectionism or restraining free trade. Nothing contradictory at all there.
