I agree with you there!! and with kids, i can get more for less at walmart then spending 50.00 at Limited Two for a pair of jeans and the quality is just as good not to mention same brands at walmart as Limited Two.

Wal-mart is nicknamed 'the devil store' in my house. Admittedly I shop there anyway as it's literally the only place withing 30 miles to get certain things.

ETA: For clothes for me and the kids I go to a lot of second hand stores. I've lost a load of weight and am between where I was and where I want to be..and the kids just grow too dam fast to spend top dollar on stuff at this point.

Sadly it's all going to fall on deaf ears. WalMart has them hook, line, and sinker - and if they don't they can get it at WalMart! :P:lol:

No, I don't shop at WalMart and I've stated my reasons why. Several times. And provided examples to backup my reasons.

Exactly what is 'creepy' about Ross?

Three documentaries I've recently watched from Netflix that I'd highly recommend to anyone wanting to know more about what's happening to this country...

Producer, director and activist Robert Greenwald takes aim at the corporate giant that's come to symbolize big business in America: Wal-Mart. Blasting the box-store Goliath for allegedly paying substandard wages, skimping on employee health benefits and eviscerating communities, this hard-hitting, emotional documentary profiles the struggle of everyday folks from around the country who've committed themselves to fighting the mega-retailer.

This documentary charts the spectacular rise of corporations as a dramatic, pervasive presence in our lives. Filmmakers Mark Achbar and Jennifer Abbott present a timely, entertaining critique of global conglomerates as they chronicle the origins of corporations, as well as their inner workings, controversial impacts and possible futures. The pros and cons are weighed via interviews with social critics such as Noam Chomsky and Michael Moore.

Before compiling your next grocery list, you might want to watch this eye-opening documentary, which sheds light on a shadowy relationship between agriculture, big business and government. By examining the effects of biotechnology on the nation's smallest farmers, director Deborah Koons Garcia reveals the unappetizing truth about genetically modified foods: You could unknowingly be serving them for dinner.

....

Consumer choice works when the consumer has a real choice and it's an informed one. Those two conditions are being underminded by corporations who are running this country into the ground.

Greenwald is often described as progressive or left-wing and is closely aligned with Moveon.org.

Mark Achbar is a Canadian documentary film director, focusing mainly on progressive political issues

Jennifer Abbott - not as well known as the above but same agenda.

Deborah Koons Garcia - married to jerry garcia till his death. his politics were not conservative. i doubt hers are either.

seems like the typical secular-progressive lineup to me

Robert, I think you're getting these reactions because people in general don't like being told that don't have a choice (even if it's implied). To those who keep arguing with Robert, please watch the 1st documentary I posted: Walmart: The High Cost of Low Price. You owe it to yourself and this country to better understand what people who are against Walmart's practices are talking about. Especially watch the part where a family hardware store is run out of town when a Walmart moved in. Seriously listen how this family built up the business with their own blood, sweat and tears and were successful for over 40 years. Find out what kinds of legal red tape the family had to go through to get a permit to build a bigger store in the early 90's and how Walmart was able to circumvent the very same zoning laws and requirements.

This isn't about Walmart. It's about what is happening to this country.

I have always respected you, i think your great. I am not tho watching a movie to try and convince me walmart sucks. Just bc other ppl think it sucks dont mean the ones who dont have to watch a movie to be swayed into Robor007's world of walmart hatred and everyone who shops there is wrong.

Family owned business's go down the drain everyday, usually yes bc bigger coroperations come into the company. If the store was so wonderful, then ppl wouldnt have disowned their hometown hardware store for walmarts hardware. So i dont buy that as a way to think walmart stinks.

example: my grandfather owned and ran a bakery in washington state. and then opps dunkin doughnuts came into town, they had lower prices and more of a variety. grandpa lowered prices and uped his variety. who got more business still?? the nationally known business dunkin doughnuts. did they do it to my grandpa on purpose? no, just as walmart doesnt go town to town destroying family business's on purpose.

Choice is choice in my book, but watch the documentary and you'll see just who is undermining your choices, and yes, Walmart has destroyed many small businesses and local communities - that's not made up. But watch the video and you'll hear what these local business owners went through.

I'd like to add that if someone posted here that Walmart was selling fur coats made from cats and dogs, would you still be inclined to say, well, it's my choice? Of course we have choice, but we also have moral and ethical responsibilities.

Ofcorse we do, but i still dont buy the fact that walmart is going around like a maniac from town to town destroying family business's on purpose. They cant just sit in one location, have one store in all USA, they have to expand. that means moving into more and more towns.

It is hard to convince people when the immidiate consquences of their actions appear to be positive, that the long term consequences could be harmful.

Wow, now that is niave, destroying businesses on purpose? Yes, that's exactly what they want to do and do do. There business is in making money, not making people happy.
