I'm not going to go back over this entire thread and look but I don't think I ever specifically said, 'Everyone who shops at WalMart puts prices/convenience above morals/values'. If I did, that's not what I meant to say. My stance is, those who do not like WalMart for their business practices and continue to go there anyway do put put price/convenience over their morals/values.

Just bc ppl shop there and do NOT like their business practices does not mean they have low morals or values or put pricing above morals and values. Means they enjoy the lower prices, i think you have much deeper reasons for not liking walmart. I dont care what they are but i hope they get resolved one day. Either way, everyone was fine with you not liking walmart , it was the part about us putting prices over our morals and values that upset ppl. If you dont mean something you say, then i would advice thinking before typing it.

Then surely the same logic applies to users of Microsoft products (which is like 90% of everyone)? Though the monopolisation of the PC software market really doesn't give consumers much of a choice. A necessary evil - perhaps, but I'm sure not happy about it ;-)

You might as well say the same thing about Amazon undercutting Borders and Barnes and Noble, who were in turn undercutting independent bookstores. I used to work for a bookstore in CA where the customers (who were almost exclusively ultra wealthy San Marino types) made a concious effort to support the independent store and pay full price for their books rather than the 40-60% discount they can receive from Amazon. I've a suspicion that those people wouldn't be quite so discriminating if they didn't have money to burn...

I personally know people, specifically friends and family members, who feel the same way I do regarding WalMart and their business practices and they shop there anyway. My bro hates WalMart but goes to Sams Club because it's 5 miles closer than the local Costo. Another family I know dislikes WalMart but they still go there for the low prices and to do everything in one spot. I told them the exact same thing I stated here in this forum regarding morals/values over cost/convenience and you know what the general response was? 'Oh well, whatever', and that was the end of it. They didn't get offended and walk off in a huff or lash out at me and I'm family and friends with these people.

I also know people who feel exactly the same way I do and refuse to go to WalMart anymore. To each their own. That's how I feel and if some are offended or annoyed there's not a lot I can do. As has been repeated several times - I prefer to agree to disagree. This will be my last post in this topic so anyone who wants to bash me some more and get in the last word feel free to do so now...

Yes, exactly...to each his own. The thing is, you can be free to be completely judge your friends and family, but at the end of the day...is it really appropriate to judge a stranger and call her immoral because she choose to shop somewhere?

Add to that the richness of claiming the moral highground while then letting it slip that the main reason you don't shop there is cos you find it nasty.

The claim that certain businesses operate in an unethical manner is somewhat obvious. But what’s the basis for discrimination? I mean do most people really put much thought into where and how their products are being manufactured?

OK you don’t shop at Walmart but say… you choose to drink Coke (look that one up for some interesting business activities), or you buy a PC with an Intel Chip and MS operating system, or you choose Amazon over your local Independent 'specialist' bookstore.

Most purchasing decisions are driven on the basis of self-interest, anything else is a luxury of choice for people who have the money to say, buy organic or shop at Trader Joes over Safeway.

Meh, I was going to continue this debate but it's pointless to argue with the WalMart shoppers who put low prices and convenience above values and morality. I'll leave with a few paragraphs from an article on Wal-Mart's business practices. Enjoy your low prices and convenience WalMart shoppers...

.. edited for length....

i agree, i dont care what his views on walmart are. he could go and piss on the door of walmart everynight im certainly not going to call him out on that. what i did and will remain to call him out on is him calling us out as our morals and values are under pricing and convenience and whatever else ####### he was saying. when he begins to attack ppls morals and values when he knows NONE of us on here, then yes, i will begin mobbing him :)
