God what a hypocritical ###. Maher.

Hey, he's a quick-witted and smart entertainer. But he has a couple of different agendas going on. One is carving out a profitable marketing niche for TV boobs, and the other is Israel. You don't have to be a practicing, faithful follower to be rabidly pro-Israel. Most of them aren't particularly religious to begin with.

I watched him a few times to see what he was all about and caught a show where his whole theme was Bush being "right for the wrong reason" in the Iraq invasion. It just made me ill. Bush was driven by a deep Christian superstition, mixed with hubris/incompetence and partners in greed/megalomania and caused the greatest foreign policy calamity in the history of the United States. And Maher was telling me how right it was, but just for different reasons than the stated lies I guess.

Bush is definitely an evangelical Christian, but the full extent of how nuts he is about it is a good question. There are reliable reports he told the French President that he saw Gog and Magog in Iraq - using obscure Old Testament prophecy to recruit the French President to his cause. They had to look it up because they had no idea what kind of babble he was on about. Bush was personally responsible for torture. And what he did specifically with torture was force people to say things that justified his war on a country who had not attacked nor threatened us. Amongst fellow travelers he was more vocal about this being God's work, but he is clearly delusional enough about it in his public statements.

This is the same mentality of the Dark Ages, not modern enlightened nations. You, Mr. Bush, are a torturer. In the name of your God. A murderer.

We need to clean our own house and make sure religion is not running our war machine. Modern day crusade? No thanks. Islam is not over here bombing us. We are over there bombing them. Our border is so porous and legal entry easy enough through student visas, etc. that it is a miracle more attacks have not happened given how many people we have killed all over the world.

I really can't help you much with your malfunctioning elevator. Bill Maher, a clever guy, but also a progressive had a very revealing conversation with Charlie Rose (the PBS guy) the other day. It's a video, and a short transcript, which pretty much encapsulates the position of the reasonable mind. But hey, you're neither reasonable, nor clever. But, you are entertaining in a Jerry Springer kind of way.
