If I took this new job, I'm just wondering how it would affect the visa process.

1) At what stage do I have to prove my income?

I read where someone changed their job and because they hadn't worked there a full year, their ytd income didn't meet the above poverty lines so I'm wondering about that. If I don't have to prove it until the interview then I'll be fine.

I just don't want to mess up the visa process by switching jobs, you know?

Are you serious???!!!??? Do you really think that the visa process is that serious to where you would turn down 20k extra a year. Why would you not meet the money requirements if you are making more money??? Do not be ridiculous if you do not want the job do not find little petty reasons to deny the offer. Honestly tell me how more money will make you not reach the requirements and on top of this did you not say it would be a while before you can get him here or something like that??? You never really explained or maybe I missed that, too. I am good for missing things.

Back to point, it is the beginning of the year and you will have more than enough to make up the end of the year, also you use your income taxes. The people you are referring to I think lost there job and started a new one late in the year, or maybe was making less money. No matter what the employment is the form is concerned about your income taxes and as far as I know the more money the better. Also in my eyes I am not going to give up my livelihood for the visa process, I will fight it but I am not going to lose out because of my fiancé I have my son to think about. Which according to your first couple of post was the reason you wanted to keep your previous position? My son means the world to me and so does my happiness. Now if you make a lot of money then this does not apply. But if you are making ok or a little low and I have the opportunity to get more and enhance my lifestyle then I would wait until the next tax year to get over that hump in the process. If you are broke and you and your husband is here broke, I do not think you guys will too happy for long.

I am a business student I see thinks they way there are and I am always trying to get the most for my money, so maybe I do not see the problem. Only you can answer this question. Like I stated before I am about security and what gets me the most money. If someone came and told me I can make 20k more then my position now I would see the security of it. Is it a good place to work, is there room for growth, other benefits and the type of place- government brand new tech company selling automatic tissue paper dispensers. I think i would stay in my navy job is the high tech job was there, however if it was like government agency or a stable and long standing institution then I would go for it. But it I really like my job and I do not want to leave like maybe you teach disabled children or at the mosque and now you are being offered more money but no scarf and teaching unappreciative children then I would think twice.

The thing is- what is it that you want for you and your life. Challenges come all your life, so do opportunities. So you have to make the Salat and then go with what you want. I used to work for a company and they fired me for some stupid reason, I did not come to work during a hurricane. They called me back after treating me bad and then firing me for a stupid reason; it was with a big company however I would never go back to them. Even if they offered me 6 figures, because the company is a very back stabbing type of organization you know. So do you. What floats your boat, but make sure you do not regret your decision.

I wonder when the offer is off the table and I would not prolong it too long. Sorry for the long reply.

You don't have to prove income until packet 3 which is another 8 or so months off. I didn't make enough in 2005 cuz I didn't work a full year. My pay stubs showing my income were sufficient. I sent Moh my extra ones to take to the interview and they were satisfied with that. Egypt doesn't seem to be overly strict with that stuff for a K3. They didn't even ask for a I134.

Thanks. That's what I was wondering.

Private - I know that I make well over the limit but that wasn't my question. I don't know how to explain what I was thinking but say I start the job March 1.....I didn't want them to look at what I've made ytd, say on April 1 and say it's not above the limit. Understand? Of course I know that would be absurd of them to do but reading the stories on all of these forums and knowing what has happened to me recently nothing in this world would shock me anymore. And yes I would not take the job if it meant not getting the visa. Sure I'm a little tight in my budget right now but it comes down to do I buy my daughter clothes from Abercrobmie or Target type thing rather than are we gonna eat. We'll survive ok with my job here but getting my husband here is my first priority over some extra dough right now.

another factor to consider - how is each company doing financially? possible one or the other could go belly up in the near future? that would be a major factor in deciding to jump ship now or stay where you are.

So what you said is that ytd(year to date) if you had your same job now you would not have enough. They go off of Taxes, but I am shock to here that you would not take the job because of the visa. I think you are with Egpyt and from what I have seen it is a little bit of a wait I think. So you could recover whatever you think may have lost. But my children and my ability to provide for my son would take over. The visa is important but if this is a great opportunity then I would not worry much about it. Inshallah you will make the best decision.

But I am curious how many would not take more pay because they thought it would effect the visa?

Why are you acting so dense and being so abrasive? Doodle explained what she meant. She isn't NOT taking the job because of the visa, she is asking if a change in income will affect it. I'm sure everything you've ever asked was perfect, valid, and without emotion due to the suckiness of the process, right? ha!

How can one claim God cares to judge a fornicator over judging a lying, conniving bully? I guess you would if you are the lying, conniving bully.

Heya doodle:

1) You don't need to show proof of income until the case gets to the embassy. They'll look at your previous year's tax return, not just the year-to-date, so if your 2006 income is solid, and you have a job that can give you a letter that puts you above the poverty line, you're fine. By the time this all processes you'll likely be closer to 2007 taxes anyway, so no worries.

Some other things to consider:

2) College tuition (I'm guessing your current job is at a university) is huge. Huge, huge, hugity huge. That said, if this is the sort of job you can easily move back to (depends on what you do), there's nothing saying you can't take this job for four years, and then move back to another college tuitiony job when the kids are 15 and 16.

3) Consider the benefits & incidentals. Do you get health care? Gym privileges? On-site daycare? What would you have to pay to get those at your new job?

4) Where do you see yourself in five years? Which job gives you the better chance of getting there? Are the companies equally stable?

I'd be inclined, if I liked where I was, to try to use the offer I had to negotiate a better offer, and then squirrel away that extra cash towards debts. But it's impossible for any of us to say. Just trying to give some things to think about.
