I forget the exact wording of sura 94 but basically you get 2 reliefs for every hardship.

Ok so most of you know my recent hardship.

I just got an old email from my old boss at my old company where I was for ten years before I came to work at this place and apparently my replacement just walked out on the job with NO NOTICE. She wants to know if I'll come back.

Pros:

$20k more per year

Shorter commute to work (ok only about fifteen minutes shorter but ya know...)

Cons:

40 hours/week compared to 35 hours/week

when totalling holidays, sick days and vacation i'd have one week less/year

no free tuition for my kids (who are only 9 and 10 years old at the moment)

:help:

12/28/06 - got married :)

02/05/07 - I-130 NOA1

02/21/07 - I-129 NOA1

04/09/07 - I-130 and I-129F approval email sent!!!!

04/26/07 - Packet 3 received

06/16/07 - Medical Examination

06/26/07 - Packet 3 SUBMITTED FINALLY!!!!

07/07/07 - Received pkt 4

07/22/07 - interview consular never bothered to show up for work.

07/29/07 - interview.

Well I think its hard to give you answer since we don't know your financial situation. I guess you just have to ask yourself what is more important right now, money or days off.

Both jobs are about equally as fulfilling.

Ugh I HATE making decisions.

I told her I'd do some extra work for her on the weekends and maybe I'll get a feel for what I want to do from there. The money is enticing. I'd still get 4 weeks vacation and I think it'd be about 5 sick days/year and my insurance would be paid 100%.

I am kind of bored where I am now, though that's not really a compaint.

would the 20K pay the tuition of your daughter's school now? Would it allow you to save? It's a hard call.... total up your pros & cons and negotiate something like Bosco suggested. Sounds like your former employer is b/t a rock and a hard place and might be willing to negotiate! Good luck!

I'd let my current employer know about the offer. Maybe they'll give you a raise to encourage you to stay. Then you'd still have the tuition benefit (which I think is a biggie).

All I can say is what the others said. I hope whatever choice you make will benefit you the most.

:)

Actually... who's to say your daughters would want to attend your college, or that you'd still be working there when they come of age to attend college?

Allah tries his chosen people through many hardships, but those who persevere through adversity, surrendering themselves before the will of Allah, shall be blessed with a superb reward.

-The Prophet Muhammad (SAW), as reported by Anas bin Malik

A time will come when the sky is torn apart; when the stars scatter, and the ocean drains away; and when the graves are tossed about, and laid open. At that time every man will be told what he has done, and what he has failed to do; and every woman will be told what she has done, and what she has failed to do.

Either one have advancement opportunities (short term/long term) maybe the lesser money now could end up long term as more? Do you plan on being there long enough to retire?

It seems you have skills that are desirable in the job market. You posted about possibly needing to sell your house. You posted your commute sucks.

Why not make a shorter range plan? Take the new job strictly for the money, and give yourself a time to re-evaluate, say, 18 months, or when 80% of your debt is paid off.

It seems you'll easily get another job should you want to move on for more holiday time, but short term it seems you have other things that are priority.

How can one claim God cares to judge a fornicator over judging a lying, conniving bully? I guess you would if you are the lying, conniving bully.

Thanks guys!!!

(((hugs)))))

I'm gonna figure out the exact $$ tomorrow and take Henia's advice and pray. I'm already saying that prayer for two other things...might as well tag this one on as well. lol.

The tuition is great but who's to say I'll even still be there in another 9 yrs or so and plus my kids have to actually be accepted. Right now you have to have a 3.0 average to get in and I think 1300 on the SAT's or so. Not to say they can't swing it but who knows, ya know?

Again thanks. It helps to have input.

In the short term though, working on the weekends for them will give me $$$ for a summer trip to Cairo!

Go where the money is. Anybody could use unless you do not have have an goals to make it up the change. I know some people are welfare queens and they would not takt this job. I think it would give a better standing at the company you would be going to. Why did you feel the company that time. IF you left on bad terms then I do not know. But an extra 20 K and less on gas, the rest can come and go. Walmart offers TA for family, so your children can get a part time job and get that themselves. I think the money would be my incentive and the paid insurance, it is close to home. I am not sure where you stand now, if you make 200K and they are offering you 220, and you do not think you will be happy then there is no point. But like 70k and then to make 90k, you could pay yourself a home in your SO country. That is what I would do it could get this offer. I would take the money and save. Also I am thinking an extra 20k is like 1660 dollars more a month. This would be great for me, I could work on my debt repayment plan just the way I planned it and have more to work with.

I think I am more of a security type person and if you are at a government job I would more likely stay there than go with it. If I could about an extra 20k for a civilian job it would be like breaking even but then I could get that grib off of my life. So it is up to you, if you go to school (like myself) then maybe you have a point. I would take the extra 1600 and save a little maybe invest in Egypt if you can place about 600 aside for the children in Tx deferred plan and this could low your taxes. Just my opinion and maybe I am apllying your situation to me, but it would be a good thing, unless they are some slave drivers.

I would like to say Doodle I agree with what both Peezy and Private have said. I too, am a security type of person. Money =security (most times) but money comes and goes... I think it is much more important to be debt-free. So I donnot like to tell you what to do, since I am not you nor do I see the whole situation but I think about ways to reduce the debt. I am sure that would for you and your husband, when he gets here so much easier.

I had quite abit of debt but elhamdullah I paid it off. I feel less stressed out and able to do more of what I want with my money. And even thou money many times equals security happiness is worth much much more. This took a long time for me to realize myself.
