Social Security Validation Question! Please help!

Hi all,

I have a rather different situation here. I had a work permit before based on F1 visa (international student) and subsequently, got a social security card with restrictions that says "valid for work only with DHS authorization".

I applied for an asylum and now I got an approval notice for my EAD (Form I-797). My question is do I need to update social security regarding this? Or does my social security card validates automatically with the approval of a new work permit?

I need to renew my driver's license (after 5 months with no driving) and they require a social security number and I was just wondering if I can proceed and apply for a driver's license.

Thank you all so much in advance for any help! It is deeply appreciated! =)
