Has USCIS ever reviewed an Approved H1B extension Petition?

I submitted an h1b extension petition through a lawyer in June 2014.

It was approved in August 2014. But it was approved (extended) for only 1 year duration instead of 3 years originally requested. The lawyer submitted a request to USCIS (Director of the Office were my application was processed) to review the decision to 3 years.

Has anyone ever experienced such a situation? What do you thing the outcome could be?
