A pregnant, suicidal rape victim fought Ireland's new abortion law. The law won

the article says she sought an abortion at eight weeks. completely reasonable.

where i stand? i dont think i'd ever be able to go through with an abortion. but i've never been in the position to have one, so thankfully i've never had to find out.

i do have a 12 year old though and the decision to give birth is a pretty big deal. glad it was my call.

We were talking the issue as a whole but I agree the law that was in place to help this woman did nothing for her. The problem here isn't how the law was written, it's the people involved.

So your stand is that at any time in the pregnancy woman should have the right to choose even if her life isn't in danger?

I'm glad you decided to have the baby. Like I said though it is not all about the woman, there is two lives here. I think it is the job of society to protect that child if it doesn't come at the expense of the mother.

for someone trying to sound pro-life, that is a pretty vile and disgusting thing to say. the woman comes first? why? because she's a voter? is victory at the polls all you political hacks care about? does the kingdom of god mean nothing?

Your trolling I'd imagine but if not yes the woman's life comes first. If you have to choose between the two then yes.

that would work fine if this country weren't populated by women with hearts full of evil. unfortunately (for all of us), evil does lurk and they can not be allowed to make the decisions for themselves. this isn't the 50s anymore. the old wholesome america no longer exists.

you just made me puke a little. so sick, your mindset. i just cant imagine.

Is this the asylum seeker?

well, i certainly don't think you should have to prove yourself suicidal to get an abortion.

yes, women should have the right to choose, even if her life isn't in danger.

didn't you read my post? i didn't 'decide to have the baby', i actively sought pregnancy.

and you and i disagree. a fetus is 50% viable at 25 weeks and those preemies that do survive have a host of issues not to mention hospital costs that most in this country, do not have the means to repay.

She is human and we both know the decision she made. Most humans under those circumstance are not going to forget it for feel good about if forever with some feel good therapy.

As it stands now, couple wait a long time in the adoption process. If that ever changes and there isn't enough people to adopt then the woman needs to step up to the plate and take care of the child.

Fix the system then, don't make it the unborn baby's problem.

Firstly I wouldn't make the assumption that therapy is 'feel good'. Getting people to face their darkest emotions is the total opposite of that.

Secondly, some women simply don't want to go through the physical, mental, emotional stress of a pregnancy. Especially when it comes with the trauma of mental illness, being raped or getting pregnant while still in high school.

I'm not sure what else to say, it's simply noone else's business.

it is interesting. if you hit your child, repeatedly, in a grocery store, a population brainwashed by the nanny state will consider your behavior its business. you will be attacked by vicious interfering busybodies and maybe even reported to the police for further reeducation.

but if you kill that same child a few years prior while he or she has the bad luck of still being in the womb, then its no ones business, because diapers cost money and foster home parents are mean.

evil. pure evil.

Well of course you would oppose that, you stand for it straight across the board. It is a complex issue that has a great deal things to consider. So to make this all about the woman's right to choose dumbs it down IMO.

yes, women should have the right to choose, even if her life isn't in danger.

Late term abortions bring up some serious moral issues.

I'm not sure exactly what we disagree on but on thing is sure I don't support abortions straight across the board. Yes health issues of the unborn baby needs to be considered. As far as medical bills go I am not going to put a price on someone's life.
