USCIS is basically one giant room like a gymnasium. with areas roped off for different functions. So yes save one or two offices, you get to basically see all he employees, same with DMV The white folks must have been in the office, boss man and all

so you think the offices hold the white jobs? the actual good government jobs to have you know, are not the peon types.

Here are the requirements for an immigration officer. Pay isn't brilliant.

Almost 28k to start. Probably not worth it to deal with a bunch of foreigners.

That's right along the lines of what I would expect really. You're right though, low pay.

If they can get to the 40's fairly quickly and with awesome bennies, it's not bad for round here

I think above all the employees hired should be qualified for the job. That should be the #1 factor in hiring anyone.

In principle I'm with you 100% - I think there are a couple of exceptions though I've only read about it for sure in engineering teams.. There was a large study on how men and women approach problems and the potential solution sets. Engineers were divided into groups of women only, men only, and split teams... On the set of problems to solve sometime the women found the optimal solution, sometimes the men did, the split group always found the optimal solution and sometimes exceed both the other teams (the worse they ever did was tie for first). They found this to be true even if the split teams did not have the people who were not traditionally the top performers.

I wish I could find the study, it was fairly extensive - I think Sony was the Guinea pig company and the universality was in California... Anyway the reason given was because of how the genders approach a problem and when they work together the possible solution sets are combined and the combinations sometimes yield further solutions.. So if you want the best solution from an engineering team you want a diverse team (getting the best of a split group) which is better than getting all of one group even if they are all superior on their own.

Don't know if that applies to race - On the surface I would not think so but different cultural upbringing might..

Most of the TSA agents I remember see seeing in US airports were racial minorities.

I'd say it has to do with the entry requirements and the level of education/experience needed to fill those jobs.

Then again, racial minorities seemed to be heavily represented as staff in fast food restaurants. Totally anecdotal of course, but something I saw consistently in both new Jersey and California.

If that's the typical pattern across the country then that's definitely an indication of a two tier labour market.
