Tell that to the US government. Whatever anyone else thinks, it's the government's position that matters.

Yes. The government understands that a woman is a fiancée.

Wow, 30,000.00 for a couple that's already a lot of money if you know how to manage it. We are only getting less than $50,000.00 a year but within 2 years since I got here we got our own house, a 2013 suv, and all the things you would wanna ask you can find it in our house and we are a member of 5 will become 6 cause my other son will soon be arriving from the Philippines. And for the fact that we need to pay our greencard here for both me and my son and petitioning my other son it really needs a lot of $$$$$.. and we still able to had a vacation for a week outside the state every summer. As long as you live the life on what you can afford and debt-free you are fine but if you live like a king spending money that you don't need you will be in trouble. Set your priority and be responsible handling your money. We started from scratch when i got here my husband is living with his parents too when we moved out the only thing we got is his bed and his computer, lol , but we're a good teamwork .

I am not bragging but I just wanna inspire the OP , go get a job where you can be able to get your fiance and when she get here maybe she can help you. I only work part time but still it counts . Don't be discourage let the situation be your guide on how to make it better. Every situation is different it depends on how you handles it. Before making a decision always ask God's blessings first and you will be fine. God bless you in your journey.

Thanks.. I'm trying to look for another job but now it is almost end of the year i don't think i can make 20k before the year ends. Should i just wait till next year? I don't know what to do....

Very location specific sir, your figures are more than double what I pay here in Montana, you're not comparing apples for apples. I have family earning about $15k and make do with that. :dancing:

Also, major point to make, this thread has majorly derailed.... :ot2:

Different areas of the country? Have different costs of living. And the government considers it possible to live on approximately $19,600 - something tells me they're the experts on this one. Is that going to be comfortable? Probably not for most people. Is it possible? Yes. Ask just about any grad student couple ever.

For the record, food costs are apparenlty 20% higher in Philadelphia than the Houston-area. And yet we spend half of what you do on groceries. We also pay less for rent, electricity, don't have to pay heating because it's included in our lower rent, and we don't have car-associated costs. So as a matter of fact, I am perfectly comfortable saying a married couple can live on less than $30,000 a year.

As a matter of fact, if you make over $30,000? You earn more than 53% of Americans.

Forty-five percent of American households earn less than $30,000 combined. (That's approximately 70 million people, FWIW.)

Forty percent of all workers in 2012 earned less than $20,000. Half of all people working earned less than $27,000.

I suspect you will find many people are capable of being married and earning less than $30,000/year.

The cost of living in your area is much higher than mine.

For example,

My 1700-square-foot house's escrow: $778/month (mortgage + property tax + school tax)

Average electricity bill: $75/month

Average gas (heating+ cooking + laundry) bill: $75/month. [i live very close to Canada, so that I spend a lot of money on heating.]
