Hello,

I am preparing to fill out i-864 for sponsorship, my partner is unemployed so I require co-sponsor.

My co sponsor is my grandfather in law, a retired veteran. On his tax return it states his gross income as about 25k (from retirement and medicaid iirc), but he has untaxed income from VA that isnt listed, but it pushes his individual income to about 47k. My question is, what evidence do we need to show that its a source of income since its untaxed? Is papers from the bank necessary? (We are in Indiana if it is relevant)

Basically, what do we need to include since a portion of the income isn't listed in tax returns?

In addition, he has a wife who gets a small amount of income (also listed in his tax return) do we need to include her in the form? She is listed as part of the household size since she is his wife according to the instructions.

also, the total individual income (aside from gross income), it says (see instructions) but we are trying to get signatures and the form filled that I printed from the website in advance while I am still in America. What is it exactly? I want to make sure the number I place is correct.

hopefully Im clear, and it is very possibly Im mistaken about something. But thanks in advance..

I don't think a bank statement would be enough? Can he get official slips from the VA showing details of the benefits he is receiving? Have him look on the online portal, i think he can print those there.

As for adding those to the i-864, personally i would get those added to the Assets part at #3 "Enter the net cash value of all stocks, bonds, certificates of deposit, and any other assets not already included in line 1 or 2".

I can't be of any help with your other questions, i have no experience with such situation.

After looking online a little, seems like he could get a letter from the Department of Veterans Affairs stating details of his benefits.

Also, you can add those as income (my bad!), but make sure you have a letter explaining the difference between IRS transcript and the total income on the i-864.

Alright, thanks so much for the information. You've helped us a lot! We will make sure to add it in a letter detailing the differences.

Just to double check, we don't need to add it in assets, just as part of the total individual income, + the letter from the VA, + a letter from us explaining the discrepency in gross income and total income?
