Without having contributed to the system, they cannot collect from it (social security or Medicare) however, they can buy healthcare through the exchange and as long as they (as LPR are filing their taxes) utilize the state medicaide subsidies to purchase healthcare. But as others have noted, this could be an expensive venture and you and your spouse should be prepared to financially support them here.

Should you not consider what it says to the rest of us who have our paychecks plundered that you are asking what benefits a new immigrant should receive? They have not paid one single dime into the systems and apparently it's expected they should have the same standing as those who paid (and paid, and paid). I think they should be taken care of the by the sponsor/petitioner first.

I am not try to be an ###... but I take complete care of my wife (an immigrant). I pay the medical insurance, set up life insurance so she is taken care of in case of my demise.

Just consider your original question and the morality of it.

So they will had to work at least 10 years to receive any benefits? What if you are at the retirement age? I know there are medical services available by the states. Currently we are living in California and I know as long as you are green card holder, you can apply for some medical help.

Are you serious? The US should just allow people nearing retirement age to immigrate so they can collect benefits from a system that they have not paid a dime into which is already bogged down by it's own US citizens who have been paying in for 50+ years???

With all due respect...As John Stossel says. "Give me a break"

God Bless

I know this is just a joke, right??

Wait...you want to know what kind of BENEFITS they can get? Really?? Why should anyone have to take care of them..I mean other than you and your wife? They will be able to buy into the health care market place, but that's about it. Now, I'm going to go rant at my husband before I say something on here that makes me get kicked out!

I have no idea how it works in India but in the UK you would have your Pension whatever paid and can then transfer it.

.

I don't know how it works in India either, but many developing countries have any combination of (1) no automatic public pension (2) very low pensions when converted into USD and/or (3) restrictions on transferring funds abroad. The fact that the OP came on to ask what benefits they could receive tells me that even if they do get a pension and are allowed to transfer it, it won't cover very much in terms of what it costs to live in the US.
