If one man is keeping you in the style to which you’re accustomed, you’re a kept woman – perhaps even [shudder] a stay-at-home mom. But if your sugar is funneled from thousands of hapless tax payers through a legion of faceless bureaucrats, you’re a tower of feminist self-determination. Fight the power, sisters! Demand government tampons!

Last week, Jessica Valenti (Feministing founder, NARAL director and Planned Parenthood heroine) asked via Twitter, “Anyone know a country where tampons are free or somehow subsidized?” The question sparked an obnoxious social media backlash, which, in turn, sparked an obnoxious retort by Valenti in her column for The Guardian: “The case for free tampons.” The liberal media, from Cosmo to TIME, followed suit with the “compelling argument” and “great idea.”

i think that there are plenty of areas in the world that free tampons and pads would a real benefit. places where girls have to stay home from school, stuff life that.

did you read it, it's really not as insane an idea when you think of who everyone includes. not just murica.

Am I the only one that finds it Ironic, that the same crowd that screams that a woman's parts, are her business and hers only, also demand that the govt and tax payers fund all aspects of keeping up with those parts.

So let me ask this. Paying for a woman's contraception, reproductive choices etc. What does this allow her to do freely, she could not do otherwise?

Have sex right. That is the real answer. No birth control, no sex.

So why is it that obama care mandates, everything and anything to do with a woman's parts, be super elevated and paid .

None of those plans pay for Viagra, cialis etc. What does that enable a man to do, he could not otherwise do.

Wanna talk about sexism ?

There is some merit (not much) in saying it is a health care issue and making it part of health insurance.

What might be a better idea is for gender to be taken into consideration when dealing with health insurance rates. They do this with auto rates - teenage boys are more aggressive and have higher accident rates and as a result young men pay a higher monthly rate than young women. This is illegal to do when it comes to health insurance. If this restriction was removed then the conversation would be easier - All those Viagra pills would cause only men to pay higher rates and the discussion would be among men to have if we wanted to pay for this as a group.. For items like free tampons that would be on the woman's end and they can have that discussion.

if you have a conservative bone in your body you'll know why women's birth control should be readily available. how many times have i heard you cry about welfare mothers? people that don't have the means should be able to prevent pregnancy. you should be on board with this.

I read one study that says the world could potentially support 50 billion people assuming current climate and full adoption of GSM techniques and removing most meat from the diet.. None of those variables are likely so somewhere well before that number we are going to have to go to either some type of lottery system to procreate or let nature take its course and see what vital life sustaining resource we run out of first to lower the world population - I'll place my bet on water.

so.. your perfect world could come into play.. natural birth control in the water combined forced abortions for those that find a way around the control and pills to allow pr3egnancy for those that win the lottery..

I remember reading a book years ago about humans going to lottery system to give birth - after about 10 generations they had bred "luck" into the human race - every human alive had to have parents going back 10 generations that won the birth lottery.
